Viruses are a set of codes or programs which enter our computer systems and cause damage. They may reformat our documents, replicate themselves so as to fill the memory space available in the computer or they may even send junk information to all the people listed on our address book. Some make the programs on our devices not to run.

Viruses may enter our systems though removable storage disks such as flash disks and diskettes. They may also invade computers through free programs which are easily available on the internet or through computer games. Sometimes they disguise themselves as emails to our in-boxes and when we open the mails, it triggers their executable file and cause damage they are programmed to cause.

Recently, mobile phones have evolved to have the same functions as of a computer and this makes them vulnerable to virus attacks as well. The fact that the cell phone can allow the user to access the internet, execute files and transfer data via mediums such as Bluetooth validates that the mobile phone is not safe from viruses either. Users should be sensitized on the importance of switching off any Bluetooth devices after use and not accepting to connect to users that they do not know.

When viruses attack our devices, they pose various risks. These risks can bring any successful business to a halt. It is therefore advisable for any business owner to backup his data and train his staff on how to look out for viruses and what to do in case of an attack.

Building a PC for Dummies(Paperback) by Mark L. Chambers Is a great place to start. I have been building and working on computers for 15 years and when I need to know something about a new software program I always start with a dummies book. They are also funny and fun to read... :)
