36 per cent of Brits would like to read magazines on a tablet computer instead of their traditional paper form, when asked why they would prefer to read magazines on a tablet respondents picked speed, portability and convenience as their main reasons. YouGov and lekiosk research highlights changes in British magazine consumption

Many magazines are ridiculously overpriced on the newsstand, and even ardent magazine lovers avoid buying their favorite titles this way. Many of them know that there's a better way to find their favorite magazines at a huge discount - by purchasing cheap magazine subscriptions online.

The Internet is an excellent way to find out who is offering the best deals on your favorite titles. There are dozens of companies that are able to offer substantial discounts because of the high-volume of subscribers they attract and special deals they strike with publishers.

In this digital age, we get practically everything with the click of a mouse. Why not spend a few minutes to look for some inexpensive magazine subscription deals, too? It's a simple process. In fact, many people already subscribe through the Web because it's so simple and accessible. Food lovers, travelers, journalists, sports fanatics, health and fitness buffs, to name a few, will all find something of interest with online magazine subscriptions.

There are many sites that offer wide selection of choices. Popular sections such as "Fashion & Lifestyle" and Ć¢€œAutomotiveĆ¢€ are categorized further so that magazine lovers can find their favorite titles such as Cosmopolitan or Car & Driver. There are other websites that further break down prices - making discount magazine subscriptions easy to find.

Advantages

The greatest advantage of subscribing online is that you pay with your debit or credit card. You do not have to worry about sending an envelope with a check through the mail, where it and your personal information can be intercepted. If you're a big magazine fan, look for sites that bundle several titles into a single deal, such as four magazines for $ 35 a year. Just browse to your favorite categories and grab as many titles as you'd like for a very low price. If you do the math, you'll find you're getting an excellent deal.

Above all, cheap magazine subscriptions make a great gift for your friends and family. If you know someone who loves to read but can't afford a subscription, you can easily buy a gift subscription. Online subscriptions offer the ability to ship the magazines to an address other than the billing address. If you give the gift of magazines, you might just find yourself as the recipient of a subscription.

When you subscribe through a publisher, your first issue arrives six to eight weeks after you place the order. There are no hidden costs or fees, and you don't have to pay for shipping. And, most importantly, you'll get a big discount. Who doesn't love cheap magazine subscriptions?

Once you subscribe online, the website from which you order acts like the agent of the publisher. Your subscription, therefore, will be managed by both the site and the publisher. If the magazine tops publishing, it'll likely be replaced by either the site or the publisher by an equally good magazine. If you are not satisfied, you can always cancel your order.

Most of the magazines you find at the newsstand are available online. That way, they're available to most people possible. Some magazines offer not only subscription deals but also PDFs to people who sign up online. That way, you can read a paper magazine or an electronic edition if you'd like. All you need is a laptop, a tablet computer or a smartphone. Just make sure your hardware can support the PDF format. This option is best for people who have access to technology and would like to make maximum use of it.

Last but not least, some subscriptions over the Web have free trials of their online content. That way, you can make sure the magazine is worth paying for. While some online publications are free, others ask you to pay a tiny optional fee to access the full content over the Web.

If I recall correctly, Byte was sold on newsstands. Family Computing was another computer magazine from the 1980s that included BASIC programs for computers. Me and my computer geek friends all used to test out the programs on our Commodore 64s back in the day. Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Defunct_American_computer_magazines
