Desktop Shortcuts are created by dragging a file onto the deskbar window or desktop. It can't be automated because desktop shortcuts are created by the user. Use desktop shortcuts to open it for fast view. Full-size desktop shortcuts are another useful way to shave a few seconds or minutes off the time it would otherwise take you to open a file, folder, or program. Also, desktop shortcuts are accessible only when they are not covered by other windows. Remember that desktop shortcuts are part of your profile. In Win 95/98, the desktop shortcuts are actually a zero length file with the shortcut's name as the filename.

Desktop

Many people find that placing shortcuts on their desktop enables them to quickly open those programs, files or folders that they access frequently. However, since these shortcuts are stored on your local hard drive in your desktop folder, they are lost if problems with your computer require it to be rebuilt, or if you get a new comp uter. On the desktop, shortcuts are designated with a small arrow in the lower left corner of the icon. Click once with the right mouse button on the file, select send to desktop as shortcut. You will be alerted that the new shortcut will be placed on the desktop. You should then see a new shortcut appear on your desktop for the program you want to use. When you open each desktop shortcut, it will open and launch the activity screen for the module. If you prefer to have desktop shortcuts for each content title then you need to add the module name in the desktop shortcut target path. Desktop shortcuts do not uninstall, unlike program files, simply right click and delete. Instead of hunting through numerous folders or waiting on the slow search engine built in. Desktop search can help you find it almost instantly.

Programs

Windows desktop search is a free add-on developed by Microsoft that adds desktop search. The deskbar shortcuts feature of Windows Desktop Search lets you establish keywords that, when you search for them, starts the program associated with the keyword. For instance, if you create a deskbar shortcut "wordpad" to open WordPad, typing "wordpad" into the Windows Desktop Search deskbar will start WordPad. Also when you right-click on an item in Windows Explorer, you can quickly create a compressed ZIP folder, email the file to someone, or send the file or folder to another folder or your desktop. Two convenient places to put shortcuts are: At the top of the Start menu In a folder or on the desktop. Shortcuts in folders or on the desktop are quick ways to start programs, open documents, or check printer status. When you have several windows open, and you need to use a desktop shortcut, you have to minimize or move the windows to get to it. You can view items on your desktop quickly by minimizing all open windows.

Shortcuts

Once you have created your favorite shortcuts, be sure to see the Save your Shortcuts section so you can save them to a safe place. You may also wish to put your shortcuts on your Quick Launch Toolbar, where they are always visible.

Question by BraceXforXImpact: What's the difference between laptops and desktops? I'm looking to buy my own computer. I'm looking for something on the cheaper side with good quality. I would be using it quite a bit for gaming so it would need a good graphics card and all that other stuff. But i don't know if i should get a laptop or a desktop. I really don't know the difference or what's better. Do desktops have more memory or is it pretty much the same? Best answer for What's the difference between laptops and desktops?:

If you don't know the difference between a laptop and a desktop, perhaps you don't need a computer?

Your going to get 2x the memory and power and storage per dollar with a desktop. A good gaming laptop is about $ 1500

Answer by Alex C

be design and shear physical mass a desktop is much better for gaming and just all around computer power. yes laptops are getting smaller and faster, but you cant run before you walk. for gaming i would def go with desktops, unless you need need a laptop or want the portability i would have to say definately a desktop. plus like previously stated, they are about half the cost, and if you ever want to add on to it and make it better you can easily do this with a desktop......laptops you cant do jack with.

laptop gives you mobility and desktop provides better system at cheaper prices. Desktop can be upgraded easily and you can get more memory and nice configuration at low cost. If there is an issue with you internet at home you can always take the laptop to any place where there is free wifi.

Laptops are handheld computers that you can bring around and travel with you. Desktops are big computers that you put it in your home and you DON'T travel around with it. Laptops are design for basic entertainment purpose and working/schooling purpose. Desktops , well , is pretty much everything. It can be use for gaming , basic entertainment , working/schooling purpose , and etc. The difference between Desktop and Laptop in performance wise , is that Desktop can be customize by yourself. 90% of the laptop in the world doesn't support customization. For example you wanted to upgrade your graphic card , yes , you can upgrade it in your Desktop , but in Laptop , usually you can't. Even if you can , usually the price is expensive and not worth the money for a Laptop. And Laptop isn't ideal for gaming , since it gets overheated and stuff easily. So the bottomline , if you need a good platform for gaming , Desktop is your best choice. But if you are always travelling around and wanted to play your high-end games around , you can always get a Laptop that is for gaming. But the laptop will be outdated in 3 years time no doubt , since you can't really upgrade your laptop and todays game's requirement is getting higher and higher.

Computer is a important part of our life now. many years ago. we are often use desk computer for our life and work for promotion. and the latest few years, computer has developed from desk computer to laptop. and get more and more portable. but do you know what is the Difference between Laptop and Desktop computer? It's easier for a desktop computer to have a bigger memory and to hold more RAM than a laptop computer simply because there is more space available for the storage. The space in a desktop computer will often allow the user to choose almost unlimited accessories and options that a laptop computer just may not have the space to hold. Things like a top speed processor, the latest state of the art sound and graphics cards, extra ports for external linking and more than enough storage space for all of the programs, music and video clips that you'll ever need. The extra space also comes with one more big benefit that you don't often find with a laptop - the ability to easily upgrade. This means that you can keep your machine from becoming obsolete for much longer by continually adding the latest programs, components and accessories. The one glaring advantage a laptop computer holds over its desktop counter part is portability. If you have a job that requires you to travel, or if you're a student living in a closet sized dormitory with three others students, a laptop computer is practically a necessity. No matter how powerful or fast your desktop computer is, you can't unplug it, take it to the subway and finish writing your report while you travel. Despite the common misconception that all desktop computers are more powerful than all laptops, the laptop computers of today have much better technology in them than the laptops of yesterday. You will pay more for a supper powerful laptop than you will for the same caliber desktop, but then again, the lower price of the desktop won't help you on the go. I think the above illustrations tell you that both types of computer can be the best, depending on situation. The key isn't between choosing one over the other, it's in choosing the best computer of the type that you choose. You need to get online and do some research on the different brands of computers to find what the best and most reliable machines are. There are a slew of different manufacturers producing computers today, you need to find which manufacturer is producing the best reviewed computers of the type that you have determined that you need and base your decision on those facts. Buying a computer from a reputable and reliable manufacturer will ensure that you get a high quality machine. This is a piece of equipment that will be a big part of your life, hopefully, for years to come; you shouldn't look to get the cheapest price if it will mean that you are sacrificing quality. Never spend your hard earned money on a machine that has gotten a host of unfavorable reviews, or on a machine that you've never heard of. Go for Laptop and that also Refurbished laptops too
