Three Computer Motherboards Worth Purchasing [aboutcomputer99.blogspot.com]

Question by RJ: Computer motherboard? I'm working on my niece's computer trying to fix it. Out of all the computers of my own I have upgraded or completely rebuilt, I have never had this problem before. When I power on the system, only the fans (case & cpu) come on. Well, the cd drive lights come on too but that's it. The system doesn't post or anything else making it impossible to even boot from cd. No scorch marks on the motherboard front or back. Switched out the ram and everything. Still won't post. Last thing I experienced close to this is when my system would post but freeze after recognizing all of the drives. I switched out the ram and it's been working fine ever since. Any ideas or have someone else experienced this before? Thanks! RJ Best answer for Computer motherboard?:

No beeps? If you can get the board speaker reconnected, and can look up the board ID you can read up on it online. It is powering up Something isn't hooked up right. If it beeps then check the monitor on a known working machine. Video card shot.

check you hard drive cables.. both of them--whether or not they are secure and whether or not they are reversed.. what about a jumper?

Ive had several similar issues, and its most likely a problem with the PSU. You can try powering up again will device disconnected, ram, hard drive, etc. Try a different PSU or test the current one if you can. All in all, if thats not the problem, it could be the mother board.

If you mean there is no display on your monitor then it might be a loose video card or a bad port try switching the port that the card is in. Also check the cords to your hard drive.

To me sounds like a Motherboard or CPU problem. Have you tried cleaning out the heatsink fan. I Have found that to be a common problem I have ran across

if everything else boots but the harddrive, it could either a bad HD or one of the wires is loose or disconnected

It sounds like it could be a problem with the PSU. The motherboard has a voltage & current checker that will prevent the majority of components from firing up if there is a problem. wdw
