I consider lap top computers as one of the best technological conveniences in our modern world. Cell phones, microwaves and all the other gadgets that make my life easier cannot match the usefulness of lap top computers.

I have owned several of them through the years and enjoyed watching them get smaller and lighter every year. There is just no substitute when it comes to staying connected, playing and working on the go.

I doubt that you will notice any inequity even though lap top computers can become obsolete the moment they hit store shelves. Recent models only weigh a few pounds and have longer battery lives. This technology is useful and convenient for those who need to use a computer regularly.

Of course, I still use a PC at my house for other purposes like surfing the World-Wide-Web. I use my lap top for the bulk of my word processing projects because I feel that they are safer there than on my PC.

Many people experience complete computer meltdowns on a PC due to a virus that they caught while surfing the web. In order to protect my files, I make sure that I keep my lap top computers away from the Internet.

Having two computers, one for Internet use and one for more important things, is a great idea. Lap top computers should be protected because they are very valuable.

If I want to send information over the Internet I would usually transfer information from my lap top to my PC. This is one of the measures I take to make sure that my precious lap top never touches the web and is never threatened by hackers or viruses.

People who are familiar with lap top computers already know that there is a wide variety of them and that they come with different features. You should shop around to find the right computer for your needs.

I have been able to get by successfully on lap top computers that are in the $ 500-$ 600 range. You can surely find a great deal if you wait around until the Christm as holiday shopping season.

Best answer for What were lap top computers used for, before the internet was established?:

They we'rent really laptops back then, they were more like sewing machines eg the Compaq portable, or kind of a high end calculator like the Radio Shack model 100. http://www.cedmagic.com/history/radio-shack-trs80-model100.html These PC's were largely used to run word processors and simple spreadsheets. To communicate, you used a floppy disk or perhaps a built in modem operating at the blistering speed of 1200 baud! Instead of the internet, there were bulliten boards operated by various entrepreneurs, kind of early day blogging. Astrobuf
