I envision one side gaining advantage over the other by disabling computers, electricity or ordering the enemy machines to destroy themselves. No territory can be gained until the enemy has boots on the ground on the other side.

Cyberwarfare is definitely the future. The goal is going to be to disable the enemy Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (better known as C4ISR) capabilities, and protecting our own.
