Netbook don't have the raw process (CPU) power to do anything other than browsering the internet and working in spreadsheet like excel. Application intensive program like recording music and editing is really out of the question for a netbook. Its best to save all you money and get a full size laptop to be your recording studio. With that said a student budget Compaq laptop with a duo AMD processor will be be more than what you will need. Good luck on your creative endeavour.
