Why is it that Christmas seems to creep up on you unannounced every year? No matter how well you plan and prepare for it, there are still some people in your life that are hard to find gifts for. If you want to avoid going the traditional route and resorting to socks, it pays to think about what each person is interested in before you hit the shops in search of that unique gift.

If you know anyone who is obsessed with computers, you'll no doubt be aware of the huge range of gift ideas that are out there. The problem is that if you aren't knowledgeable yourself you could end up buying the wrong thing - a computer game that doesn't play on your recipient's computer for example. So why not resort to the wide range of novelty Christmas presents available to put a smile on the face of any computer fanatic?

USB gadgets are proving extremely popular, with anything from a fan to a desktop vacuum available to plug into any standard USB port. There are so many U SB toys to choose from, you are sure to find something that will appeal to the person you are buying a Christmas gift for.

The one item that all computer users find handy are mouse mats. These mats come in all shapes and sizes and they make an ideal Christmas gift if you want something fairly simple and inexpensive. Because they are small and light, they are also very cheap to post - making them a perfect choice for friends and relatives who live overseas. As with the USB gadgets, there are also plenty of different options to choose from.

While on the subject of computer mice, why not buy a mouse to remember? Most people have a plain old mouse that has seen better days, and would welcome receiving a new computer mouse that will bring a smile to their face every time they sit down at their computer. How about a bright orange mouse in the shape of a goldfish? Or perhaps a mouse in the shape of a car for the younger member of the family who has just passed thei r driving test? This mouse even comes with working headlights. There are plenty more to choose from, including ones with animal stripes and spots, and even one in the shape of a ghost.

The key to choosing the right gift is to give yourself plenty of time - don't get caught in the trap of running around the shops on Christmas Eve and panicking because most of the best gifts have long since sold out. Think about the person you need to buy a gift for, and consider what other interests they have apart from computers. Could you combine the two in some way?

In short, a little advance planning will ensure you buy the right gifts for the right people - and enjoy a Christmas to remember.

Question by Superconductive Magnet: Why do people hate Apple computers so much? They took inventions like the mouse, the Graphical User Interface (GUI), and the 3.5" floppy and took them from little-known geeky novelties to common household objects. If it weren't for Apple's innovation back in 1984, your computer would have no mouse and you would be reading endless lines of green code. Apple also invented the USB. Microsoft made minor changes (e.g. Recycle Bin as opposed to Trash Can) to their OS so as not to get sued, but Windows still uses the GUI, the mouse, and the 3.5" floppy. Apples don't even use floppies anymore! They dropped those in 1997! Aside from price, Apples have higher quality parts, crash less often, and are easier to use. I use Apples, new and old, all the time. How come you never see a 20 year old Windows machine? I have 4 old Macs of 20+ years. While I am a loyal Mac user, I will NOT report any opinions which disagree with mine. However, please DO NOT bother to say things like "Macs are stupid" w/o giving reasons to support your ideas. YES, I am a nerd! Did I make it obvious enough by what I wrote? Or do I need to add some calculus? Best answer for Why do people hate Apple computers so much?:

I have never heard anyone say that Macs suck. I love mine, it's superior in every way to a PC.

you're a nerd aren't you? go on admit it lol!

I don't like them purely from a gaming standpoint. They are not gaming computers therefore I will never own one. However I don't find them to be awful or anything and if I did some type of graphical work for a living I would get one.

Answer by Brittany
i don't think that they are horrible. actually I'm getting a power mac for my bday next month. but the reason why most people hate them is because they exclude themselves from other competitors. they THINK that they're the best. and they are way too expensive. and they don't have as many programs that can entertain you or help you with school work. because the majority of computered-projects in school(like PowerPoint and Microsoft word) uses Microsoft.

Everything you stated is pretty much true, but one thing that is a "plus" for a Windows pc is the huge variety of software programs that are written for Windows, compared to the very limited amount for Apple's computers. If you do a search for shareware or freeware programs of just about any genre, you'll find many more for Windows.
