It depends on where you are currently (what country). For example you are in Philippines, it is a very good option as most of the European companies are doing their cost cutting and off shoring their IT infrastructure on a country that they can pay cheaper and save more with the same quality of work. Not assuming that it's a bad option to study Com Tech if you're in Europe but the competencies are high :)

A computer technician is someone whose job is to maintain and repair computers and servers. A computer technician may be internal or external depending on the size of the organization. Usually large organizations, which have heavy-duty applications with a network of computers and servers, employ their own team of computer technicians.
A person with little knowledge of the intricacies of a computer cannot sort out errors and problems that crop up from time to time, depending on the usage, and this is when computer technicians come into play. There are several organizations, which have a pool of technicians to help you figure out the problem with your computer or even do maintenance for maximum efficiency of the computer. The job of a computer technician, as most people may think, is not an easy one. A person aspiring to become a technician has to go through a rigorous learning and test process.
An exam certified by engineers and professionals is conducted by the organization Expert Rating. This is a 40 minute exam and a person has to answer questions related to computer hardware concepts and repair, memory and storage devices, memory card, ports and expansion slots to name a few. So most qualified technicians are capable of handling any problem related to your computer.
There are also specializations in the field and this is necessary in case of core applications such as information systems, data recovery and systems administration when an organization is working over the globe and wants to process the data at once. But speaking in general the repair problems may range from incorrect settings to virus infection to replacing the hardware of a system. This is where the expertise of the technician is very handy.
Like most fields, the job of a computer technician branches out. Primarily it can be classified as hardware and software problems. In the hardware problems, a technician may deal with fixed device like the desk tops or mainframes to portable devices like the laptops or other handheld devices. Often the technicians also deal with computer peripherals like the mouse or printer among others. Among other hardware they deal with are routers, wireless networks, switches, etc. The software problems dealt by the computer technicians are mainly to retain data in an infected computer. The technician here has to install software of configure settings on the computer so that the memory is optimally utilized. He also may need to store the important information on the backup and then change the entire Operating System hence retaining the data after resetting everything.
Now to choose the right computer technician, one has to know these simple facts about these technicians as an untrained technician may cause more harm than good for your computer. Firstly it is important that one approaches a certified or well-known organization, which provides trained and experienced computer technicians. Most importantly one should know that a technician does a quality job, which is not the case when you call up a computer savvy friend instead to fix up your computer. So be it technical support one requires, or formatting the system, or hardware and software installation, trouble shooting, or networking, it is important for you to go for a certified technician who can do the job for you.
