Question by Emily B: If I buy a laptop computer sleeve, can I just put it in laptop backpack? I've been looking for a cool looking laptop *backpack* but, as you can imagine, it's hard. I was wondering, if maybe I just got a laptop sleeve, could I put it in a normal backpack? Or would I just have to settle with an ugly laptop backpack? Also, my laptop is 14.1" diagonally. Best answer for If I buy a laptop computer sleeve, can I just put it in laptop backpack?: [computer sleeve]

What do you need a proper laptop case for?
You don't really have to have a computer bag to tote your lappy with you but I highly recommend getting one against scratches, accidental spills and weather. You might as well just hold it in your hand or put it in a plastic bag but the risk of data loss and damage to the computer is too high compared to the money it costs to get a proper case. There are quite a few solutions for the matter, leather, neoprene, textile bags or ones you can use as a backpack but I've chosen to buy a neoprene sleeve for multitude of reasons. First, it is a waterproof material, so I don't have to worry about changes of weather, furthermore they are as cheap as chips so you can have two three of them for various occasions. Third reason I've taken one is that I've already had a backpack which is a nice place to carry a neoprene computer sleeve in. Defending my computer against water and scratches has been top priority of mine and these do just that... and perfectly.
10 inches mini notebook case
Built Netbook Laptop Sleeve 7-10-Inch; these funny looking bags are made by Built, I could say they are built for this job if I was to take a shot at this cheap pun. What I really like about this particular sleeve is its hourglass shape. It provides some extra protection against dropping the bag with the computer inside. As far as I'm concerned, the guys at Built have managed to put some lovely texture on the case, drawing one of these in Starbucks would be nothing to be ashamed of. The price is just a breath under $ 20 which makes it a perfect gift for any geek girls who have netbooks and happen to have no casing yet. My girlfriend is a software developer so she kind of frowns at minies, but I still think they're lovely. I'm pretty happy with the overall appearance and the zip it has.
15" Computer bags
You or someone in your family might already have one computer of this size. What makes these sell is overall functionality, so where there is a demand there usually is a supply. A rather popular networking and accessories company Belkin has seen the opportunity and made their own casing for the 15" form. I don't say I'm in love with this Belkin 15.4-inch Neoprene Pixelated Sleeve, but it pretty much owns as far as design goes. If I had one of these laptops I would definitely grab one of these as they cost $ 19 at the time of writing this. Apparently they are made of 3 millimeters thick neoprene which is more than enough of a defense against scratches and dent under any reasonable circumstances.
17" - Gaming grade
Today's second Belkin product enters the scene with Belkin Neoprene Notebook Sleeve for 17-Inch Laptop (F8N049-BR for those who really have to know). Pretty solid looking sleeve for it's $ 30 price, and when you throw a thought about it, this kind of money is really well spent on a computer bag that protects a $ 1500 worth gamer 17" laptop against scratches and fluids. I would not think twice before taking one, but again, I don't carry gamer laptops around so what do I know!
