Question by Kami: What's up with these little online electronic stores with crappy service? I've been trying to get a Canon Powershot online. I've already tried a couple sites: Digitalnerds.com and Wisetronics.com They had the best price but both times my camera is always on backorder. When you need customer service, they are rude to you, don't return your calls/emails or give you bs excuses about it being on backorder. Why bother advertising something that's never in stock? I don't understand how a two week back order turns into a month and then you don't hear anything at all. Anybody have some similar experiences to share? Yeah, I know they are not related but I know what you mean. I've seen that Digitalnerds.com has several different names. I just don't understand how these people can sustain running a business being so unprofessional and ripping off people all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if these two stores were owned by the same people. Are the products gray market or refurbished? Check the serial number when you finally get the item. It's best to go with a good store with a good reputation so that customer service is better ( or should be) if you need it. Check BBB for complaints against a store before you send them money. If the contact info for a webstore is a PO Box or is missing, beware. It could be a scam.

I would highly recommend doing some research about the operations you're going to do business with. Shady online camera stores are some of the most well-documented examples of consumer nightmares and scams. Just doing a search for digitalnerds came up with a number of complaints about their business practices. There have also been a history of bad customer experience by many Brooklyn camera stores.

They survive because people like you still buy from them! Only buy online from widely known or online stores with a solid reputation, fight back by shopping somewhere else.
