This is a video on how to share Linux Folders with your Windows machines. I use a program called Samba to share the folders so that they are surfable in a NetBios (network neighborhood) fashion. This is a command line video however if you have Webmin installed on your server you can also configure it in a similar fashion using a web interface. You can also try tweaking the config file for Samba to better suit your needs. This is a very simple setup. The commands are... sudo apt-get install samba cd / sudo mkdir realname sudo chown techno:techno realname ls -l sudo smbpasswd -a techno sudo vim /etc/samba/smb.conf [sharedname] path = /realname available = yes valid users = techno read only = no browsable = yes public = yes writable = yes sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart ifconfig cd sharename ls -l Providing training videos since last Tuesday. technoblogical.com Thanks for watching.

Question by : How long have your Windows computers lasted before you've replaced them? In those past years, the 3 previous computers I've had, have had operating software crashes that have cost me a total of $ 300 to get the systems working again before I eventually replaced them. I can't get my computers that run Windows software to last more than 7 or 8 years before I throw in the towel. But usually by this time, I want the new features and upgrades anyhow. Best answer for How long have your Windows computers lasted before you've replaced them?:

Answer by Jacob
If you keep a backup install disk and the serial number an operating system crash would cost you nothing.

I have a 5 year old Dell (Core 2 Duo, Vista) that's running pretty swell.

I'm still using my first Pentium 1 computer from 15 years ago. Okay, so maybe "use" is a strong word, but it does still run. It really depends on what you need your computer for, how good it was in the first place, and what you've installed on it. From what I've seen, Macs in general seem to last longer than PC's, but I see quite a few low end PC's that weren't really made to last very long. I deal with technology as my business, so anything past 3 years is ancient ; )
