The information and computer revolution of the past 30 years has totally changed the world. Computers are everywhere, and so are smartphones and Internet access devices. More and more business and banking is done online, checks and letters are becoming a thing of the past. Knowledge of computer software has become an essential skill. It's required in just about every job. You could even say that without knowing computers and how to use the Web, people miss out not only on news, entertainment and communicating with friends and family, but also on opportunity.

What do I mean by that? Well, apart from computer software and Internet literacy having become essential in the job market, it can also help make extra money or even launch a business or career. Almost everyone, for example, has heard of eBay, the giant online auctioning service. Initially it was just a few people buying and selling things. Then it grew into a global marketplace with millions of people sellin g and merchandising products. For many it has become a profitable side business and more. Success on eBay, though, means learning how to use it and knowing all the tricks.

But there's more opportunity out there on the Web than just eBay. With the economy being as it is, a lot of companies downsize and a lot of jobs are being lost. Rather than living in fear that they will be next, many people are starting their own Internet business. Perhaps it's something small on the side first, but with the intent of growing it or having something to fall back on should a daytime job get lost. That's not as difficult as it sounds, but the problem is that most people don't know how to go about it. Starting and running an online business, or any business, means learning about the Internet, business basics, advertising, financials, and so on. How does one go about that?

One way to do it is taking classes or going back to school - not a viable option for most. You can also buy boo ks on the subjects and learn from them, but finding the right books isn't always easy, and the cost of books quickly adds up. E-books are usually less expensive and may therefore be a good option. In fact, computer-based learning tools are usually the best way to go, but how do you find the right ones? If you go to a bookstore you probably end up paying a fortune. Ditto for learning tools advertised on TV. There are, however, places that specialize on bundling such learning software and making them available for very little money, usually a fraction of what one would have to pay for individual titles.

There are computer software collections on how to star and run a business, how to succeed at eBay, and how to do advertising and marketing. Others show how to do business letters and forms, or even publishing and layout. There are also collections that cover computer and Internet basics, toolboxes and power tools, and, for when you need a bit of relaxation, e-books and ga mes. I've found such collections, and some of them are incredible values.

There are pretty good computers that you can get at best buy that range from $ 500-1000. I personally build my own rig, it's cheaper, and has a lot more power. Building a PC isn't hard at all, just gotta know what to do : /

I also say Toshiba Satellite, I bought my Satellite 4 years ago just to install Linux on it and program...it was like my experiment computer. It was really cheap like $ 350 with little discounts. I am surprised this thing is still running (almost 5 years). Or go with cheaper brands like Acer, their specs can match up with any brand for a cheaper price.
