Question by curious88: Computer memory? So I have an Apple MacBook, the white one, and I was wondering if I put an extra 1GB of memory if it will really speed it up or if it won't really that much. I love the computer but sometimes when I have iTunes and the internet all going it slows down a bit...so, do you think the extra memory will give it a boost? I'm not that great when it comes to computers... Best answer for Computer memory?:

If you are willing to pay for an extra GB then go for it. It will definitely make a difference. The thing with Mac is that it isn't extraordinarily fast in the first place. The GB should help you run iTunes and the internet at a regular pace, maybe even another program if your really that talented at multi-tasking.

Absolutely! You can never add enough RAM to a computer. I have two 512 Megs on order right now because I'm upgrading mine to use in my recording studio for a digital editing/mastering suite. By the way, now is the best time of the year to upgrade because the prices of RAM cards rise during the winter and fall towards summer. Just make sure the card is the right speed and configuration for your processor and motherboa rd.

Well 1 gb is a very sufficient amount of memory. However, Itunes and safari do eat a lot of memory. Like safari is using 75 mb on my system now and itunes is using 30! However, your system should still be fine with regular apps running Go to your applications folder, then click utilities. Open the "activity monitor" click system memory. If you are not using close to 1gb, it is not your memory that is slowing you down and adding any memory will not give you any performance gain. If using itunes and safari slows your laptop down, there is something eating up your memory or cpu. On the list of processes, make sure there isnt something using 99% cp u or something or 500mb or ram. if that is happening you have a faulty application that is malfunctioning.

extra RAM equals extra performance, but not necessarily in that proportion.
