Question by Unique S: Are integrated chipsets removable from computer Motherboards? Let's say I wanted to upgrade my audio and video chip sets to higher quality, would I be able to do so? Or would I have to search for a motherboard that did not already have the chipsets? I am configuring a computer from the ground up and it is centered around Music Production. You can't remove the integrated chipsets. But you don't have to use their audio or video features if you don't want to.

You could remove the chips, but you would wreck your computer. Are you working on a desktop or a laptop? If a laptop you would have to buy one with a motherboard that has the chips you want. If a desktop, you can disable the onboard chips and install a dedicated sound card.

Yes just purchase a video card, and sound card... once you install them on your mother board your PCI slots will always bypass your intergrated defaults.

Anything is removable, the question is would it work or be anything but a pile of jumbled circuits and scrap metal. If your performing a PC autopsy then sure you can remove it but if you ever want the computer to work again. No

You can't remove an y chipsets from the motherboard unless you want a pile of junk after OR you are a skilled technician with special tools to do the job. To upgrade your sound and video simply buy and install a video card and/or a sound card. Once installed and programmed you can use them instead of the motherboard ones.

All mother boards today have Integrated (built in) IC chips and removing one would kill your machine. some circuitry on the chip may be used for other things beside just sound. There are plenty of plug in high end sound card available most fit the PCI slot, some are PCIe x1 slots. Just plug in the card, install the software and drivers, and move your cables to the ports on the card. most high end sound cards are considerably better than the on board sound anyway.
