Wireless speakers are the ideal solution to extending your computers sound capabilities without the need for more bulky and messy cables. Wireless speakers work by sending the audio signal through the air rather than along a cable. This approach has a number of advantages as well as a number of disadvantages.
Advantages
1. No need for extra cables. The clue is in the name, wireless computer speakers don't use wires, so no more snaking cables across the dining room.
Disadvantages
1. Limited range can be a problem. Anything further than the length of a big room could be a problem for some systems and could cause bad sound quality or cutting out.
2. Receivers and transmitters will both need some form of power whether it be batteries or mains adapter.
The advantage of a no wire computer sound system seems ideal at first but you should be aware that some systems claiming to be wireless actually do require a certain amount of cabling. It i s important to check before you buy.
Although the list of disadvantages seems to be bigger than the advantages the fact that you will not need cabling is a major advantage and could mean the difference between drilling holes to hide and route cables and just placing a speaker on a shelf without any work whatsoever.
What to look for in your wireless computer speakers
1. Look for a reputable manufacturer. Find reviews on the internet and check what everybody else is saying. The internet is your friend when you are about to buy a new product.
2. Check which speakers are wired and which are wireless. Most wireless systems have some wiring involved. You may decide that wired front speakers and wireless back speakers are the way to go, this will save you money and will mean less power supplies.
3. How is the system powered? Battery power may be fine for a while but batteries run down and your computer speaker system will suffer. The sound quality will gradually get worse as the batteries run down. Much better to go for a mains powered system. The disadvantage of this is that you will need a supply socket near one of the rear speakers and a cable between the two.
There doesn't seem to be a truly completely wireless computer speaker system but modern wireless speaker systems are pretty good at saving the amount of cabling.
The best way to guarantee you find a good system is to search the net for information.
Related 1 Major Advantage to Wireless Computer Speakers TopicsQuestion by dalbones2: Can you use wireless computer speakers in another room and hook up to your home stereo system? I'd like to get my husband a wireless surround sound speaker system in the same room as our tv/stereo for Christmas. AND be able to play all of our cds that have been downloaded to our computer. Best answer for Can you use wireless computer speakers in another room and hook up to your home stereo system?:
Answer by AcidBurn
I'm a little confuesd by the wording of the question, but i think this will help. if you want to be able to play your music from your comptuer to your home theator (stereo) system and you have a wireless network you might want to try the soundbridge 1001, it will let you stream to your stero reciever wirelessly or via cat 5 cable and control from the soundbridge unit. However it can NOT play music purchased from the iTunes store. If you want to be able to use music from the iTunes store you need to get a Airport express (w/ air tunes) from apple. The airport express is wireless or throught cat 5 as well and can also be used as a print server if you so desire (i use it for both) If you get an airport and want to stream like rhapsody to your speakers you can get a program called airfoil that will stream i believe any music source to your airport express. The only downside is you must control the music selection from the computer, but it will play anywhere in your house. It looks like from the airfoil program page shows that you can stream rhapsody or any oth er music sources to the airport express. The music quality is excilent from the airport express, and as for the soundbridge, its ok. Also if you have a reciever or amp for each set of speakers you could hook an airport up to each one and then choose which one to play through or just select certain ones (multipul or all) to play at the same time. Also if you go visit a bestbuy w/ a magnolia home theator center in it they can be a great help for answering spacific questions. Hope this helps!
