Metro PCS Review - Plans, Phones, Prepaid, Pros, and Cons [aboutcomputer99.blogspot.com]

Question by asianetix: What is the easiest way to have two PCs linked to 1 internet connection? I want to link two PCs (for separate use) to 1 internet connection. I will use cables and not wireless. The connection comes straight from the wall (next to the TV outlet). Can I put a 'splitter' (small plug) in the wall outlet and connect 2 separate cables (one cable per PC)? How would the download speed be affected when both PC are linked to the internet? Thank you. Best answer for What is the easiest way to have two PCs linked to 1 internet connection?:

SIMPLE: Buy a Router. Trust me. Don't worry about the download speed, that will be fine, Uploading is when you will run into problems, but i doubt your uploading much... I.E. Hosting a website, files, or sending data to friends that are several GB large.

buy a router... don't worry about the rest

what type of internet connection do you have coming from the wall...cable? dsl? a regular phne jack for a modem...this info os needed to best direct a concise answer.

The easyest way to do this would to be to by a router. Simply hook this up between your cable modem and computers and it will work. If both computers are downloading a file at the same time, the download speed will be about half. When one is doing nothing, there really isn't a speed difference.

The easiest way is to use a Router. You can't use the splitter to connect 2 pc's. It also better if the cable from the wall outlet run straight to your modem without any splitter in between. Download speed won't be a big factor on both pcs if they're connected by ethernet wire. It also depends on how fast your connection is but with a cable connection you probably won't notice it.

You simply get a router from your cable company.

Get router.

Answer by jcristallo
Through the router you will have some speed loss because you are sharing the net. As long as both are not trying to download multiple huge files should be OK. If both are gaming this should be fine too. The router will most likely keep up. 4-5 PCs would be a problem.

well I think there is no need to have an router for this an dI think the best way is that make these 2 PCs in a LAN (you just need 2 LAN card if your mother boards dont have them on board) and one of them as server just like a coffee net. and you can connect to internet with server PC and another one can be online too.
