Okay if you are reading this site then you are most likely looking for a new notebook computer. It seems that the typical desktop computer is no longer the most popular choice for consumers. The truth is that many people do not realize that getting used notebook computers can easily save them tons of money and they will not even notice any difference in the way that it works. there are many types of ram out there so it is impossible for us to tell without the computer make and model or use actually looking inside the computer. I do know of a website that can scan the system and tell you what ram it uses, what slots are empty, kind of ram it supports, and how much ram it supports. To do that use the system scan at http://www.crucial.com/

Download program called "CPU-Z" (Here: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php < top left corner is downloadlink). Then, run it (no installation required) and head to the tab called "Mainboard". Look what Manufactor is listed and what model. Then head to the manufactors website and find your motherboard on the site, and there you can see what ram your motherboard supports.

If I'm understanding your question correctly.... You can go to control panel, and look for the system tab. That should tell you the type of ram. Also the company you buy the ram from should be able to inform you as well. Make sure you bring your make and model with you of the computer. Hope this helps!
