 If you'd like to speed up your laptop than installing laptop memory might be the quickest and easiest way to do it.  Most laptops have memory that just snaps in place, most people can do it themselves without paying anybody to do it.  Installing memory means your computer can load more data from the hard drive into it's memory.  The more it can load the less it has to keep going back to the hard drive, the less it has to load from the hard drive the quicker it is.  First you need to make sure your new memory is going to fit before you install it.  Let's take a look at the three most important things you need to match when replacing your laptop memory.

Type of Laptop Memory.

Your laptop RAM memory is probably one of three types unless you have an ancient computer. DDR type memory is what most laptops have today.  DDR stands for Double Data Rate, and comes in three types DDR, DDR2 and DDR3. DDR2 laptop memory is twice as fast as DDR l aptop memory, and DDR3 is twice as fast as DDR2.  So before you replace your memory you need to find whether you have DDR, or DDR2 or 3.  Replacing 2 with 3 won't make your computer faster, many times it won't even work.

Memory Speed

Each type of memory will have different speeds.  You need to find a speed that matches or exceeds your computer.  You won't really see a performance gain by going with faster memory, but it will work.  The reason faster memory won't help is because your computer can only move so much information into and out of the computer.   Think of the memory as being a toll booth, not matter how fast the speed limit is on either side of the toll booth, you still have to wait in line.  Your memory speed limit may be higher but the data still has to wait in line.  You can sometimes open up your laptop and see the specs on the memory it has or you can go to the manufacturers website and it should have a memory finder.  

Pin Type

Each "stick" of memory has pins on it that fit into a slot on the computer.  The number of pins should match exactly.  If not they won't fit.  Their are notches cut into the memory that line up with the slots on the computer so you couldn't install the wrong memory even if you wanted to.  You won't be able put it in wrong either, which is good.

go to www.crucial.com and let their little program scan your system it will tell you what you have and what the max and speed you can upgrade to. Thanks
