Protect your appliances and devices from voltage spikes by using high-quality surge protectors. Voltage spikes usually occur when lightning strikes or when there is faulty wiring. They can cause damage to your programmable appliances and equipment and even cause fires. That's why surge protectors are necessary.

How they work

Surge protectors work by blocking voltage spikes to a less dangerous threshold and preventing damages from happening to your devices. The normal threshold of electricity is 120 volts. Anything higher than that can cause damage to your appliances. Surge protectors prevent that from happening. There is an increasing need for surge protectors because high-powered devices are more sensitive when it comes to voltage spikes.

There are different kinds of surge suppressors: meter, electrical, and plug-in. The meter and electrical surge suppressors protect from outside electrical interference. Meanwhile, a plug in suppressor has a built-in alarm system.

Protect your devices

Different surge protectors are being sold in the market. When shopping for a protector, it is important to look at three things.

First, check the price - if it is too cheap, then it's probably no good. Do not compromise quality. Most cheap surge protectors do not work - they will not protect your devices, and can sometimes even cause bigger damage.

Next, check the protector's Underwriters Laboratories (UL) ratings. UL tests electronic products for its safety. If it doesn't have one, move on to another brand.

Finally, make sure that your protector meets the criteria for UL 1449 - the minimum performance standard for protectors.

Question by Larry J: Are all wires and cords from computer appliances and tv's made of copper and can they be recycled? I have a collection of various cables and cords from a wide variety of appliances and I'd like to know if they are all copper and if I can recycle them.Do I have to strip them down to the bare metal? Best answer for Are all wires and cords from computer appliances and tv's made of copper and can they be recycled?:

Answer by froglosopher
Most power cords are copper wire encased in plastic or rubber. If you strip them to bare wire you can recycle them but would be a lot of work for very little $ . Most metal recyclers wont take them if if they aren't stripped.

Not long ago, I joined a Chamber of Commerce locally and one of the perks was 20% discount at a major Retail Office Supply Box Store. That sounded pretty good and certainly added to my reason for joining. Later, I learned that the actual deal would help a small business save on average 15-20% of their office expenditures at this certain office supply, computer and office furniture store.

Indeed, when I inquired how to get my discount from the Chamber of Commerce, they sent me to a website to sign up with the Office Depot Company. Soon after, I get an email from them wishing to set up a sales appointment to take a look at my office supply needs. Hey, wait a minute, I just want my discount, I do not wish to meet with a salesperson.

Of course, like most small businesses I do buy some of my office supplies from Office Depot, or rather I did. The past year, I have bought two laptops, $ 500 + in software and various other things like filing cabinets and supplies . Yes, they talked me into a rewards card that I filled out, only later to learn I did not get any credit for the purchases of the computers or computer software. Apparently, unbeknown to me, they no longer give it out for computers or computer software, so I am S.O.L. on that.

However, the new deal with the chamber discount has added bonuses, the salesman tells me by email. And I need to meet with him to see what I want a discount on. Well, everything in the store, dah! Isn't that what they promised? Of course he tells me:

I have the members send me a list of items and customize a list that is tailored to their specific business needs. I also inform members that if they are going to buy tech, call me first because we have a division named TechDepot that are able to get lower prices on all technology including software. You spoke of the "Consumer Rewards" program. The Chamber program is far more aggressive in pricing then the Rewards. My division has nothing to do with the Rewards program, that is an in-store program."

Okay, well, I already found out the hard way that we got shafted on our rewards miles for the computers and software. But, now I am suppose to forget all that and go for some new deal, since I am a member of the chamber of commerce? Wow, I am still getting over the last time I did business with this company. Moral of the story; Small Business need to be careful not to be tricked by big box store Office Supple rewards programs; it's not what it seems.

A parody of the Arrow Computers advertisement starring Tezza! Basically this was just a mockery of Arrow Computers, because like in this advertisement, thats how crap they really are. They obviously hired some random nerd off the street (with no real computer knowledge or any common knowledge for that matter), payed him minimum wage, named him: Rusty Gates (one of the most uninspired names of all time), and forced him to appear on all their commercials. After seeing this commercial I thought: "Hey! That's what Tezza would do, except he would star in all the commercials himself and make the prices higher!". Arrow Computers is seriously one of the most over priced and crappiest computer stores in the world, so I thought I should go one step worse and create: Kelmy Computers. This clever UPS hack shows you how to replace the tiny battery in your current Uninteruptible Power Supply with a car battery. This gives you much longer life - as much as 48 hours. If you live in a power-challenged area, this is the best way to keep computing when the lights go out.

aboutcomputer99.blogspot.com Build a 48 Hour Backup Computer Power Supply - SYSTM

Building a computer from scratch is an excellent way to learn about how a computer operates. Understanding the different components and the manner in which they interact can reveal much about the functionality of a computer. Some of the most famous computer professionals such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates began their careers by building their own versions of computers. The basic components included a computer power supply that would allow the other elements to function. The motherboard, CPU, storage devices and memory are the main items needed to get a machine up and running.

When choosing the hardware for a computer system, many people focus on the main elements of the system. The amount of memory, the speed of the system and the amount of storage space are important aspects to consider. What many fail to realize is the importance of the power supply. These items are inexpensive but choosing the wrong equipment can be more harmful than helpful. A computer power s upply that shortens out or is ineffective can damage the other components within the system. It is better to spend a few extra dollars acquiring a high quality device in order to protect the other elements of the computing system.

Another advantage for investing in a higher quality computer power supply is to keep a system up and running. A major source of stress for individuals is when a computer stops working. This can be harmful for home based workers or a student. Interrupting the productivity of the user can have far reaching consequences. Repairing a system that has a failed supply system may require technical experts to become involved. This will require that the computer goes to a shop. This lost time cannot be replaced and may result in major hardships.

A power supply is often an overlooked piece of hardware. It doesn't have the attraction that other parts of the computer has. People don't often compare or brag about the amount of power that their supply produces. Rather, they become impressed by the graphic capabilities and the amount of memory that a computer contains. The speed in which they can stream videos or play a game is a more tangible item. The thing to remember however is that without a reliable computer power supply, none of these things would be possible. The next time a computer is powered on, take time to pay homage to this most basic piece of the machine.

Question by : Does a 1000W computer Power Supply use 1000W all the time? And will it use 1000W when the computer boots up? I would like to know whether a 1000W Power Supply would use 1000W all the time? If not, how can you confirm that? If I only need 600W, and compared to a 600W power supply how efficient is using a 1000W power supply? And will it use 1000W when the computer boots up? Thank you. Best answer for Does a 1000W computer Power Supply use 1000W all the time? And will it use 1000W when the computer boots up?:

Answer by JoelKatz
The "1000W" means the maximum amount of *output* power that the power supply can provide. It has nothing to do with the amount of input power that it draws, except that a power supply must draw in at least as much power as it puts out. Typically, power supplies are around 80% efficient. This means the power supply draws about 25% more power than the computer requires. So if the computer requires 150 watts, the power supply will draw around 190 watts from the power line. Power supplies vary in efficiency, and you can check the specification for each power supply to find its rated efficiency. All other things being equal, power supplies are generally designed for peak efficiency at 50% load, however, this varies from power supply to power supply. A larger power supply of comparable quality will not use significantly more power than a smaller power supply. Look for power supplies with 80PLUS ratings.

Answer by James H
A Computer power supply is a switching supply and will supply (and draw) power on demand. Think of a Monster AMP for a car stereo. You may have 1,000 watt subwoofer amp , but until you turn it way up or hit a REAL LOW note, the amp is not using much power (amps). When a computer starts, all the devices are tested and there is a "surge" for a few seconds. That surge can draw up to 500 - 600 watts but it will taper off unless your playing a game and burning a CD and using all the power of the computer. The powersupply will only put out the power needed, and therefore will only "draw" about 25% or so more than the output. So the "Bigger" power supply will not create a bigger electric bill. It wont draw more than the 600W but will have reserve capacity if needed.

Answer by Jack
no it powers what the computer needs alot of the connectors wont be being used so it will be unable to complete the circuits and so will not output 1000watts remember just cause its 1000watts means thats the maximum each connector can only output so much. e.g 8 pin cpu can output 140watts, 6 pin pci e connector can output 75 watts, etc

Answer by gameplayer_1706
1000W supply means it can provide max of 1000Watts. Just a computer will run fine on a 450W supply , If u a powerful Graphics card or Sound card u will need a 600W supply max 750. When u use a 1000w supply for a system that needs less it will not affect it in any way , it will just provide the required power that's all.

Guillermo del Torro Gomez, more popularly known in the industry as Guillermo del Torro, is a Mexican director, screen writer and producer. The widely acclaimed director started out in the film industry at a very young age, working and studying special effects and make-up with SFX artist, Dick Smith. Del Torro started his directing debut in 1986 with the film Dona Herlinda and Her Son but did not garner that much attention in the industry.

Most of del Torro's works revolved around comic adaptations, fantasy and horror films. One of his most acclaimed films so far is the Mexican fantasy film, Pan's Labyrinth. The story takes place in post Spanish Civil war Spain, in 1944 in a mysterious labyrinth with strange magical creatures. The story actually originated right out from del Torro's notebooks which were filled with drawings and doodles he made for the past 20 years.

One of the most notable parts of the film was the use of impressive visual effects, animatron ics and make-up. The movie made use of CGI or computer generated imagery, creating real life creatures with impressive detail. But a majority of the effects were brought to life with make-up and animatronics - both of which were equally painstaking to create. Actors would sit in the make-up chair for hours as latex foam were added layer upon layer to different parts of their body.

Pan's Labyrinth was first released in May 2006, during the Cannes Film Festival. The movie was done completely in Spanish. In August of the same year, it was shown in the London Fright Film Festival, this time with English subtitles. This was the fist ever showing of the film in an English speaking country. After which, the movie was then distributed to various countries, finally reaching the United States in December 2006.

After the release of the film, it generated huge acclaim both among viewers and film critiques. The movie received a 98% rating in both Metacritic and the Cream of t he Crop critics. The former is an online review site for movies, albums and games over the world. On its first release in the Cannes Film Festival in 2006, the movie was honored with 22 minutes of standing ovation right after the show. It received the same acclaim during the Toronto International film Festival in the United States in the same year.

Pan's Labyrinth garnered numerous awards from top film award-giving bodies from the Oscars, GOYA Awards, BAFTA and many others. The first three weeks of the film's release in the United States earned it $ 5.4 million. Overall, the movie grossed a whopping $ 80 Million worldwide. The DVD version of the movie also earned an impressive $ 55 million in the United States alone.

Guillermo del Torro's work in the film has indeed given him a spot in the industry's line of history makers. He is now considered to be one of the most sought after directors for animated and fantasy productions in the film industry. Up to date, t he director announced his plans of venturing into the video game industry - something that fantasy and video game lovers should all watch out for.

I just need a cheap one with the color plugs in the back. I couldn't care less about video quality Best answer for Where can I find a very cheap computer monitor?:

Answer by Rhyled
If you don't mind bulk, I'll bet you can check around and find an older CRT based monitor with those connectors that people are willing to give away. I've got a nice 21" high res NEC monitor, but the monster weighs 70 lbs and it's not worth the cost of shipping any more.

Answer by aviatingamateur
The XBox 360 will work with ANY computer monitor that has a VGA input. (Yes, the XBox 360 has VGA support built-in). All you need to do is buy the Microsoft XBox HDAV VGA cable. No need to look for monitors that have those stupid low-definition composite RCA jacks-- Composite RCA is GARBAGE compared to VGA (which is High Definition). .

Answer by 9121
Like the other two said, your best bet would be to buy Microsoft's official VGA cable for the Xbox 360 and connect it to any old VGA monitor. Check Craigslist: surely someone in your area is giving away a CRT monitor for free, or at least selling a halfway-decent model for a very low price. A CRT monitor has the capability to provide you with very good color and contrast compared to a LCD, and if you get a model that has at least 1920 pixels of horizontal resolution (for example, a QXGA monitor), you can play in true 1080p. I use a flat-screen CRT monitor for gaming. (You may also need to buy a VGA gender changer if the monitor has a non-detachable VGA cable; these are a couple dollars at most.)

Review - MSI Wind Netbook U120-024US [aboutcomputer99.blogspot.com]

We love it when a new MSI Lightning card hits our desk. The GTX 680 Lightning is the latest addition to the highly regarded range that MSI reserves for the highest end GPU's from the AMD and Nvidia ranges. Without even opening the box we expect that ... MSI GTX 680 Lightning Review

Pros: Big Hard Drive, Webcam,10" Bright Screen, Low Price

Cons: Wireless g, but no wireless N.

Summary: If you need a little more than just connecting to the internet at the coffee shop, the MSI Wind Netbook U120-024US should do the trick. With plenty of hard drive space and slightly larger screen than your typical netbook, the MSI Wind Netbook will actually let you get some work done.

I've never been a big fan of these netbooks. The early ones actually had less memory and processing power than my blackberry. However, we are now seeing some come out with the new Intel Atom Processor, 10" screens, and most importantly, a real 160gb hard drive! With Windows XP installed, you can now run all your office applications and software that you would on your desktop. Now you can actually get some work done. In fact, for normal office/student use, this can be your sole computer. Just add a USB keyboard/mouse and attach a 20" monitor, and you have yourself a virtual desktop.

The Wireless G is sufficient for 99.9% of wireless users right now, but wireless N is the latest and greatest. Although technically faster than wireless g, it's real advantage is range. However, don't let the fact that this runs on wireless g keep you from buying it. I don't know of any hotspots that are using wireless N right now, and for home/office use, range is probably not a problem.

As for the processor and memory. The MSI Wind Netbook U120-024US uses Intel Atom which is designed primarily to extend battery life by using less power. From various benchmarks, it excels in office applications and multimedia decoding (watching DVD's for example). For gaming and other high graphic intensive applications, it lags significantly behind processors found in larger 6 pound laptops.

The MSI Wind Netbook U120-024US comes with 1gb of ram and can be expanded to 2gb. For normal use on a Windows XP operating system, this should be fin e. Generally, you'll only notice your system slowing down when you have several applications open at the same time. If you constantly open several applications at the same time, a 2gb upgrade is cheap and you'll be glad you did it. Otherwise, just open one thing at a time, and close it each time you're done before opening the next app.

I really can't comment on the webcam too much. It works, the picture is decent in bright light, and it will work with all the major messenger services. Nothing to brag about here, but it's there if you need it.

In summary, the MSI Wind Netbook U120-024US does more a blackberry, let's you do excel spreadsheets and word documents, checks your email, and comes with a real hard disk for saving your work. Also, the 10" big enough for you to actually see things. The amazing thing about his netbook is the price. It costs the about the same as other netbooks that don't have a real hard drive.

Quick Specs: MSI Wind Netbook U120-024US Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB DDR2 667MHz, 160GB SATA, 10" WSVGA LCD, 1024x600, LED Backlight, Intel GMA950, 4-in-1 Card Reader, 1.3MP Cam, 10/100, 802.11b/g/, 6-cell Li-Ion, Windows XP Home

If you want a really small portable notebook then MSI Wind is a pretty good UMPC. But the low powered single core Atom CPU, the small 10” display and the lack of an optical drive can pose some problems if you are planning to use it as your primary notebook. For around $ 550 you can also get a much powerful (less portable) standard notebook. Like the following : Gateway T-1631 (14.1") AMD Turion 64 X2 2.0GHz, 3GB DDR2 RAM, 250GB HDD, DVD RW, Wireless, Webcam, Mic, Windows Vista Home Premium = $ 599. link : http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Gateway-T-1631-14-1-Widescreen-Laptop-Garnet-Red-T1631/sem/rpsm/oid/215078/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do Toshiba Satellite L305-S5875 (15.4") Intel Dual Core 1.86Ghz (T2390), 3GB DDR2 RAM, 200GB HDD, DVD RW, Wireless, Webcam, Mic, Windows Vista Home Premium = $ 549. link : http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8897633&type=product&id=1212192350239

We can all agree that having an Internet connection is important these days. But there is some debate about what the best ways are to get online. There are multiple devices with this capability. Some users choose to online on their mobile phones. Others prefer using more of a traditional computer like a desktop or laptop. There is now more interest in tablets, though, and some people are wondering whether tablets are better than using a netbook or a laptop for a wireless Internet connection.

Honestly the choice is going to be based on what you are doing online and on the device that you choose. For people that don't actually spend a whole lot of time online, because they don't have a personal computer or other device that they own, they may not realize what they could possibly use the net for.

Lots of people go online at work but don't really have the need to use the Internet when they are at home or away from the office. These people may not know how usefu l having a computer or other device at home could be for them. The Internet offers an infinite amount of possibilities, including banking, shopping, and having the ability to do some work out of the home to make your life at the office a bit easier.

If you need to use an actual computer, a laptop is generally the best route to go. If you have children, they could use it to do homework. Many kids these days have to create presentations with photos and music to present in class. If you consider yourself an amateur photographer, a laptop will allow you to use software such as Adobe Photoshop to edit your photos. If you use programs or files that are large in size, using a laptop is probably your best option in terms of portability.

When it comes to these cool new tablets, though, they are very tempting to purchase. Advertisers stress how fun they can be, which is why they are popular among younger users. The cost of a tablet is close to the price of a lower-end lapt op computer, so they can be a reasonably priced solution for basic Internet browsing. In fact, some companies will offer you a free tablet when you purchase a new cell phone. This is a great way to save money on them.

In order to determine what is best for you, talk to a sales representative at an electronics or mobile store so you can weigh your options. Those who work at these stores are very knowledgeable about the overall functionality of tablets and laptops. Once you know more about each one, it will be easier to make a decision. It is important to be a wise consumer so that you get the right item and will be satisfied with it in the future.

Question by : How fast is the iPad compared to laptop computers? Is it as fast as a regular laptop with dual core and 6GB of RAM running on Windows 7? Best answer for How fast is the iPad compared to laptop computers?:

Answer by Tom Brown
Simply put, no. But it doesn't do the same thing, so don't treat it like a laptop, its more a glorified web browser to me.

Answer by Computer Technician
I have never saw an ipad so I can't say about speed. But they don't even compare to a laptop.

Answer by Mathy Bunny
You cannot exactly compare the two. The iPad is VERY fast overall, but all the Apps were designed for that specific iPad with that specific Hardware. In Laptop's, there are different laptops with different hardware, so then some software runs faster on some laptops rather then others. If you are going on the Internet and running iPad apps, then it will be lightning fast. The laptop will also be fast. It then depends on what you want to use it with. Hope this helps :)

Answer by Rankf Face
No, the iPad 2 is definitely not as powerful as a regular laptop. Not even close. The iPad 2 has a dual-core Apple A5 processor clocked around 1 GHz. It is paired with 512 of DDR2 RAM. It performed similarly with the Asus 1001PXD in Geekbench (a benchmarking tool), which had a 1.67 GHz Atom processor and 1GB of RAM. So raw-performance wise, you would expect it to be similar to that of a typical netbook. However, an iPad does not run a full-fledged desktop OS (such as Windows 7). Instead, it runs its own proprietary OS known as the Apple iOS. iOS is a powerful and yet very lightweight system, therefore the iPad 2 runs everything extremely smoothly (even a lot smoother than a netbook running W7).

Since there are not many parts to begin with in a bare bones computer you may be missing parts. Most people need to get one or two parts for their day to day operations due to different applications that people use them for. Do your homework first and find out exactly what you need from your bare bones system before buying. Super cheap computer deals should also throw a red flag like ones under $ 200. Carefully analyze the components of the package especially if the monitor is included, you are most likely getting a real piece of junk that won't work. Usually these type of computers use older parts. It can be a great cost saver, and some old parts still work great, if you want to upgrade it isn't going to be cheap. There is a much greater chance of having defective parts. Your motherboard could be defective, the power supply could go out in a couple of months it just goes hand in hand with "cheap computer stuff". Refurbished computer parts can be a great cost saver, but there can be problems with the updates to these computers. Often the bare bones computer is slightly updated to meet needs, but is really quite an old model, just with upgrades. Some sellers of these computers might offer a warranty. The problem with that is most of the parts are way past their manufactures warranty date, so the warranty is only guaranteed by whoever is selling the computer. It's best not to bother with this, a crooked seller can make an easy profit off of you, and leave you with a broken computer.

Well I hope that helps, just keep these things in mind before you start shopping, good luck!

Clean installs (formatting) and reinstalling your operating system are always the best ways to clear up issues and restore your computer to what it once was. Be sure to have an installer for windows (definitely have the key) and save your favorites, important files, and drivers. Google "re-format computer" or something to that affect, many guides can help. Sounds like your comp has just become bogged down over the years. Otherwise, uninstall everything you don't need. aboutcomputer99.blogspot.com How to Build a Computer

There are many people who want to know how to build a computer because there are many advantages to it. Rather than having a computer which has pre-fitted details, it is better to have a computer which can be customized to fit your own requirements. There are people who need it office purposes while there are others who need it for gaming purposes. All of these requirements have different specifications and it also becomes cheaper if you construct your own computer. Also, if you have built your own computer, it becomes easier for you to change the components or make repairs when there is some problem.

There are basically 8 steps which will help you in building your own computer. The first step is to figure out the purpose for the computer. Make a list of all the things that you need and as per it, find out which components which will work best with it.

Make sure that you decide whether you are using brand new components or old pieces. The next step is to find a place where you can work without the normal problems of dust and disturbance. Also, make sure that there is no carpet as the presence of the same can lead to static problems. The next step is to unscrew all the parts and figure out the requirements. After this is done, get the feet, power supply and the inner fan for use. The motherboard should be kept handy for installation. Though most of the components come with screws nowadays, there is always the chance of getting one which does not. In this case, you will have to mount all the other parts before pairing the motherboard. Always remember that the screws s hould not be overtly tight as it might pose problems in the fitting of the computer.

The next step is to configure the motherboard along with the CPU and the cooler.

Now attach the power cord to the motherboard by connecting it to the power outlet. There are also smaller power cords which need to be attached to the LED screen and other components. The next step out here is to install the hard drives and other disks by using the manual instructions that are given along with the hardware. This should be done carefully so that there is no untoward mishap. Finally, figure out which operating system is the best for your needs and install it accordingly. Now that all this is done you can sit back and enjoy!

After building your computer you can learn how to increase vritual memory. You can also learn how to disable windows live messenger when you install windows your your computer.

Have you ever wished you could create your own art work? Ever have a art piece in mind, but couldn't find it or afford it? Ever need that final touch to complete the decor theme in your child's room? Then keep reading!

In this article, we will discuss how to use childrens wall decals to create art work for those finishing touches in your child's room. The best part about this sort of project is that it doesn't require artistic talent or lots of time or money to create one of a kind masterpieces!

In case you are not familiar with kids decals, let me catch you up to speed. Decals are a rising trend in the world of interior design and are nothing short of amazing! They are thin, flexible, but durable, vinyl stickers that are capable of being removed and repositioned multiple times. They leave no sticky residue behind and they won't peel paint. Most people think of using kids decals simply on walls or furniture, but they really offer endless possibilities for d ecorating childrens living spaces. Kids decals come in all shapes and sizes. You could use smaller decals to create a grouping or collection of art pieces or create a single masterpiece with a larger decal. The options are limitless!

So, let's get started! First of all, you have to pick your kids decal! Truly there are so many options and themes available. I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding a decal that suits your decor and reflects the interests and passions of your child. Now for the "Project"!

Step 1: Gather your supplies. You can use art canvas or wooden plaques for this project. Both come in many different sizes and shapes and can be purchased at a local craft store. For the purpose of this article, I will just be referring to canvases. Either way, I recommend taking your decals along with you to the store to help determine what size will work best with the decal you have. While you're at the craft store, you will need to pick up acrylic or stencil paint, brushes or craft sponges. If you want to do any special paint detailing you'll need smaller brushes. You will also need to gather a ruler and chalk for sketching a plan on your canvas. If you want to decorate the outside edge of your art piece, you'll need ribbon or twine. Now that you have gathered your supplies, you're ready for the fun part!

Step 2: Paint your canvas; front and sides. If you want, you could use a coordinating color to paint the edges. Let the canvas dry completely before applying the kids decal. Here are a few fun options for creating a textured background on your canvas. Try using a sponge to create dark and light spots; try dragging a dry paint brush (like you'd use to paint a wall) through your wet paint - drying your bristles in between till you create the look you like. Have fun and try new things. Remember, you can always paint over something you don't like. Don't let fear hold you back!

Step 3: Place your decal on the painted can vas. It can be centered, off-centered, whatever looks good to you. The best part about this is, you can reposition your kids decals as many times as you want until it meets your satisfaction!

Step 4: Decorate the canvas. Its best to use a pencil or chalk to sketch out your plan before you start painting it. Some fun options include dots, stripes and scallops to name a few examples. The easiest way to create dots is to buy a pre-cut sponge in the size circle/ dot that you want. Again you can find these in the general crafts department of your craft store. You could even try some polka dots as a background before you put the kids decal on it. Stripes; make them straight, squiggled or different width and colors. I highly recommend using a ruler or small craft level to give yourself a guideline for these stripes, even squiggly stripes. Its better to have a "straight" squiggle than a crooked one! The best way I know to create a scalloped edge is to start by finding a small round object from around your house. Place the round object on your canvas and trace the top half of the circle along the edge of your canvas. Continue to repeat this until you've created a scalloped boarder. You could either paint the "inside" edge or "outside" edge of this scallop using a coordinating color to the background.

Step 5: Personalize it! You can easily personalize your wall art by adding your child's name or initials to it. If you're not very good at free handing a name, try printing it off your computer in the font and size you like. In order to get the name on your canvas, put some carbon copying paper behind your computer paper and trace the outline of the letters with a ball-point pen. When you pull up your paper and carbon you will have an outline of the name on your canvas. Simply paint it in and voila; you've got personalized wall art for your child's room

Step 6: Decorate the edge of your picture with ribbon, jute or twine. Simply use a glue gun to attach your accessories onto the edge of the canvas. You could also use jewels to decorate the front of art piece as well.

I hope this article has proven helpful and has opened your eyes to see that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to kids decals! Now you can create the perfect finishing touches to your child's room decor by creating your own art work using kids decals! What's not to love? It's a fun, affordable and stylish way to display your child's interests and passions!

Students Spied On With School Issued Laptops Federal lawsuit brought against district for covertly monitoring students and families in their homes Steve Watson infowars.net Thursday, Feb 18th, 2010 A school district in Philadelphia faces a class action lawsuit after it allegedly issued laptop computers to 1800 students across two high schools and then used concealed cameras within the machines to spy on students and their parents without their knowledge or consent. Lower Merion School District in the suburbs of Philadelphia faces charges of invasion of privacy, theft of private information, and unlawful interception for providing computers with webcams that were remotely and covertly turned on by administrators. Finding used laptop computers for sale can be one of the best ways to save money. However, there are a number of things to consider when doing so to ensure you get value for money and that the transaction goes smoothly. Here is a quick guide to finding the perfect second-hand laptop.

The most important thing when buying a used model is to do your research. Taking time to research may seem like a lot of effort, but it can save you more money as well as avoiding further stress down the line. Start by comparing the general type of laptop you want, so that if you do come across a second-hand bargain you'll know that it's right for you. There are a number of websites that can help you to compare different makes and models.

Now you can start looking for used laptops on websites as well as in local classified ads. When you do, read the descriptions carefully. You should never go for a used laptop that's older than a few years, as these probably won't be worth any amount of money you pay for them. You need to find that balance between a good price and good laptop specifications.

When you do find used laptop computers for sale that look like good deals, always check the seller out. Try to discover whether they've got a good history of selling, or if the laptop comes with a warranty. Most used laptops won't, which is why it's so important to do your research beforehand.

It's an old wives tale. If he has a very hot laptop computer and he wears briefs, he could warm his little fellows up a bit so they won't swim well, but that's about it.

Yes, there was a study done a while back about that. The whole reason for his "parts" to be outside the body, unlike females, is because it requires a lower temperature. But it could only harm him for extended amounts of time. Maybe get him a lap desk to set it on?

Newer computers run even hotter than the ones used in the study below. I would recommend men not to use a laptop on their lap. US researchers warn of possible fertility risk to men using laptop computers on their laps http://www.innovations-report.com/html/reports/medicine_health/report-37499.html US fertility experts today (Thursday 9 December 2004) warned teenage boys and young men to consider limiting the time that they use laptop computers positioned on their laps, as long-term use may affect their fertility. The increasing popularity of laptop computers (LC), coupled with existing evidence that elevated scrotal temperature can result in sperm damage, prompted researchers from the State University of New York at Stony Brook to undertake the first study into the effect of heat from LC on scrotal temperature. The findings are reported in Europe’s leading reproductive medicine journal Human Reproduction[1]. They show that using an LC on the lap increased the left scrotal temperature by a median 2.6°C and the right by a median 2.8°C. Several previous studies have shown that increases in testicular or scrotal temperatures of between 1°C and 2.9°C are associated with a sustained and considerable negative effect on spermatogenesis and fertility. Lead researcher Dr Yefim Sheynkin, Associate Professor of Urology and Director, Male Infertility and Microsurgery at the University, said: "By 2005, there will be 60 million laptop computers in use in the USA and a predicted 150 million worldwide. Continued improvements in power, size and price of LC have favoured their increased use in younger people and laptop sales now exceed those of desktop computers." With the exception of an anecdotal report of genital burns, the effect of portable computers on scrotal temperature when they are used on the lap was not known, he said. "Laptops can reach internal operating temperatures of over 70°C. They are frequently positioned close to the scrotum, and as well as being capable of producing direct local heat, they require the user to sit with his thighs close together to balance the machine, which traps the scrotum between the thighs." The researchers worked with 29 healthy volunteers aged 21 to 35, measuring scrotal temperatures with and without laptops. Two one-hour sessions of scrotal temperature measurements were performed on different days in the same room with a median room temperature of 22.28°C. The men were dressed in the same casual clothing for each session and sessions with and without LC were conducted at the same time of the day. Body temperature was taken by mouth beforehand and each volunteer spent 15 minutes standing in the room to adjust to room temperature before being seated. A non-working LC was placed on the lap so that the volunteer could adopt the right position to balance the laptop, then removed, and the seating position held for one hour, with scrotal temperature being measured every three minutes. The same procedure was repeated for one hour, with the same baselines controls, but this time with a working laptop. The temperature of the bottom surface of the LC was also measured at intervals. "We found that scrotal temperatures rose by 2.1°C when the men sat with their thighs together, which is necessary to keep LC on the lap. But, the rise was significantly higher when the LC were used â€" 2.8°C on the right side and 2.6°C on the left," said Dr Sheynkin. " It shows that scrotal hyperthermia is produced by both special body posture and local heating effect of LC." The median surface temperature of Pentium 4 computers used increased from nearly 31°C at the start of the experiment to nearly 40°C after one hour. Dr Sheynkin said: "The body needs to maintain a proper testicular temperature for normal sperm production and development (spermatogenesis). "Portable computers in a laptop position produce scrotal hyperthermia by both the direct heating effect of the computer and the sitting position necessary to balance the computer. The magnitude of scrotal hyperthermia associated with abnormal spermatogenesis is unclear. But, previous studies suggest that 1°C above the baseline is the possible minimal thermal gradient capable of inhibiting spermatogenesis and sperm concentration may be decreased by 40% per 1°C increment of median daytime scrotal temperature.

I'm going be cooling a north bridge and amd2 socket 2 start with. I cant seem to find a site that has everything about all this on one page. Looking for good value and good cooling at the same time thanks in advance. Best answer for Water Cooling Computer Kits Whats the best to use?:

To answer your questions in the order you asked: "What it the best to use either a kit or build a custom one": A low end/mid-range kit will normally perform worse than a well designed custom system, but there are many kits that perform very well. "Best Pump": Best is hard to quantify. Most GPM (gallon per minute)? smallest? quietest while providing good performance? The same applies to all the components in a watercooling system - it is very hard to pick "the best" since in many cases the performance is relative to your needs. An excellent system can be bought from: http://www.swiftnets.com Their systems use the components that most DIYers use for custom systems, but they have everything pre configured so you know that everything matches. Some guidelines for cooling the system you described: You should get a 2x120 radiator at least, anything smaller will not have enough surface area in order to cool both the CPU and the northbridge. Since you plan on having multiple block you want a powerful pump and tubing that will not restrict the flow off coolant which means that you should look at 1/2" inner diameter for the tubing and barbs. If you want to read more (which I strongly advise), check out the forums at http://www.procooling.com and I also recommend reading about watercooling here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2007/08/22/watercooling_101/1 - it's a good primer.
