If you are already a fan of PowerShot cameras, this will be "preaching to the choir." However, if you happen to be looking for an excellent all-in-one camera, the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS may just be the perfect fit for your pocket.

Pocket camera? That may be pushing a little toward cargo-size pockets, but surly a pretty nifty fit for those larger pockets or a purse. Dimensions are actually 4.2x2.4x1.3 inches and it has a weight of only 7.7 oz.

What is HS?

Some of the things that will really grab your attention are the new and exciting upgrades to this model.

First is the reason for the new name. You may recall that former models in this line of digital cameras had an "IS" at the end of the model name. This was due to Image Stabilization in the camera technology. Now, newly developed technology has given this camera an "HS" at the end of its name. The engineers have improved the CMOS sensor as well as the DIGIC 4 image processor in the camera and added increased functionality in the way these two important parts of the camera interact with each other to provide better images and image processing.

With the HS system, the camera will handle photos in a more efficient way as to provide better low light imaging. The camera interprets low light situations differently than its predecessors, causing faster shutter speeds and more light on the sensor, thus giving better, less noisy images.

New Features For Canon PowerShot SX230 HS

Another exciting feature is the in-camera GPS system. This will allow you to have a snapshot of your journey using your camera, including the exact spot each photo was taken.

Yet another improvement comes in the form of video. The Canon PowerShot SX230 HS has full HD video at 1080p and 30 frames per second. It also has something called "Dynamic IS" in video shooting. This is image stabilization while making digital movies.

Camera con trols on the SX230 look more professional as the manufacturer has consolidated the mode dial, function wheel, and other settings buttons on the back of the camera.

With respect to control, this camera allows you, the photographer, to take matters into your own hands, only if you want to. If your desire is to set the camera on Auto and be free to compose and shoot, you will likely be very pleased with the outcome. That is simply due to the "Smart Auto" stop on the mode dial. It is simple - set it and forget it!

As far as all-in-one cameras go, this one has the qualifications. It is perfect as a travel/vacation camera or a family camera. Already mentioned is the GPS, but it also has a super-zoom lens with 14x wide-angle to telephoto capabilities. If you are traveling, you want a camera that is compact yet powerful. It takes amazing still shots and video as well.

The first person who answered is 100% correct, It is time to move on. Unlike 10 years ago when a new computer might run you $ 1500... you can get a modern system for $ 400-500 from dell. They have one of their vostro desktop systems on sale for $ 399 and that includes 19'' LCD. If you're on a windows 98 system this would be a great upgrade for you. ***** To the original question though... windows 98 does not support plug and play like 2000 and up do. If you do not already have a driver, you need to goto the HP website and see if they even have a windows 98 driver for that printer. If they do, download and install it.
