Are you talking about system optimizers? If so, use with lots of caution, but Advanced SystemCare 4 was just released and got a great review from CNET.com. There's also Glary Utilities, and the program every computer should have, CCleaner. Strongest, stronger, strong...in that order. The first two also come in Pro versions, which have extra features. I must warn you, system optimizers are dangerous if you don't understand what some of the features are doing to your computer. I've used all three...they do include many useful tools, but a program like Advanced SystemCare 4 does much more than the other two. It is on par with TuneUp Utilities and Advanced System Optimizer, both of which are very powerful, paid programs. Many, many folks have screwed up their computers with some of these programs. Their intention is good, but powerful software can mess things up. Registry cleaners, file removers, system speed optimizers...all three can be great tools for some, and nightmares for others. I use the basic features only. http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare-Free/3000-2086_4-10407614.html http://www.glarysoft.com/products/utilities/glary-utilities/ http://glary-utilities.en.softonic.com/ http://ccleaner.en.softonic.com/ http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Advanced system care is great for computer cleaning but the anti-virus is not the best. http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html Comodo is a great free anti-virus. Comodo.com. Download both and you will be good. If comodo slows your computer down you may need to adjust your settings. I personally pay for Avast and I am completely happy with it but I know someone that uses Comodo and I will be using it when my Avast expires.

[free computer software]

The computer world is divided in two confronting camps with two totally different philosophies. On the one side are companies that sell programs to make money. On the other are people who believe software must be totally free. Generally paid software dominates, so why don't more people go for the free alternative? And what does that mean for intellectual property? We're asking one of the leaders of the free software movement, programmer-turned-philosopher Richard Stallman. Everybody likes a freebie and that goes for users of computers too. Getting hold of these free programs usually means copying them from a disk given away with a computer magazine or downloading computer software from the Net. Just what kind of computer software you want is up to you obviously but you can acquire working copies of most forms of software from the Net, if you look around hard enough.

Most surfers who would like to download free computer software off the Net are searching for utilities - utilities such as anti-virus software, anti-spyware utilities, firewalls, back-up programs and word processing utilities.

You can find several thousands of programs like these to download from the Internet by typing 'free software' into Google or by going to download sites like download.com, tucows.com and majorgeeks.com, but there are dozens more of them as well.

These free software downloads come in a couple of different types. These are: freeware, shar eware, time-limited usage and limited functionality programs. Freeware is literally free; the writer has put the software into the public domain for anyone to use free of charge.

Shareware is similar, but you are expected to make a contribution if you like the software or use it frequently. Occasionally shareware is time-bombed so that it stops working after a month or a pop-up appears every hour after a month and occasionally nothing happens at all or a few features will cease to work (like 'save' or 'send').

Time-limited usage software is usually a trial. In other words, you can use the full program, but it will switch itself off until you pay after a certain length of time. This is quite common with expensive software. Some free software comes with limited functionality from day one, but you can use it for as long as you like. The complete version is accessible on payment.

There is another sort of freeware which is an on-going worldwide product. Into thi s category comes such software as Firefox, OpenOffice, WordPress and Opera. These are fantastic top-grade products and are completely free of charge.

There are also free gaming web sites, although most of the better games are time-bombed for limited functionality or just work in demo mode, which means that you can just watch, you cannot take part. This is extremely annoying. If you spend an hour downloading a game only to find that it is a demo version, so strive to find out first.

The other foremost category of free software on the Net is tutorials. You can find a free tutorial for virtually anything that you would like to learn. The majority of free tutorials seem to be on aspects of using a computer like programming or editing HTML, but there are also free tutorials on using major-brand software; passing exams; needlework, gardening, and just about anything else as well.

If you would like to start downloading computer software from the Internet free of c harge, try some of the names I suggested or do a free search on Google.
