Your best bet may be a net book. If you mainly only use it for programming and coding you wont be putting too much stress on it. Plus they are cheap. I would just recommend you make sure you get at least 2GB RAM.

Oh for god sake ! Am sick of Net-Books craze. When will people learn that they are nothing but S*IT, they are cheep, nasty, badly made, and overheat like made. Sure they look small and cute and looks practical but they are anything but! I would go for a more conventional one instead.

Do not buy a netbook. They lack in performance and you will have nothing but problems with them. I would recommend you purchase a second hand Dell Inspiron from eBay or something similar. You could even put Linux on the second hand machine and get more bank for your book in terms of performance.

I wouldn't recommend a netbook for what you are doing (not enough power or expansion options). But if you need to keep within a small budget you might consider a refurbished laptop. My brother got a nice refurbished laptop for under $ 200 here... http://www.jrgcomputers.com/laptops/ Good luck!
