It is pointless buying used computers in this day and age... You can get a really fast descent computer or laptop for £300!!! All second hand computer's are useless - hence the reason they're selling them. Go to a computer-shop find the cheapest computer and you'll be away..

You could get away with a Pentium 3 machine for just basic tasks like that. At the very least: Pentium 3 733MHz processor 256MB RAM 20GB Hard Drive pacificgeek.com sells used and refurbished systems at really good prices. Check if its damaged, how much RAM is in it to make it so it isn't extremely slow (512 MB minimum), and thats about basically all you need to know.

Ebay not a bad place if you read the intire description on the laptop and make shore you get the operating system CD with it and watch the shipping charges don't let them burn you on shipping and ins.

what is your budget? i'd recommend getting a dell... they're known to be pretty reliable and they're also cheap. I have bought alot of used dells off of ebay, alot of them for under $ 200. i think the best deal i got was 5 complete systems including 17'' lcd's, the computers had 3.2ghz pentium 4's, 512mb and 80gb hard drive... 3/5 of them i got for $ 199 + shipping, the other 2 were under $ 240+ shipping! so look on ebay for dell optiplex gx520, gx620, 320.... there are alot of good deals for those models and also some others.
