Laptops have been around for quite few years now but still desktop computers have maintained their popular position in the market. Majority of offices, homes, shops etc are still equipped with desktops. Laptops can be seen with the traveling executives or the type of people who are quite busy with their presentations before their clients. Keeping them aside, others love to work on PCs.

Despite its bulky size, a PC is liked by everyone while a compact laptop has less number of takers. The demand for PC is increasing worldwide today. So, what are the factors that have kept PCs at the top of the popularity?

Desktop computers can have several advantages compared to laptops:

1. Easy availability of spare parts The components or parts of personal computers are uniform across the globe and are available in all major computer markets. They are available at low prices while laptop parts are more delicate and expensive. Moreover, desktop repairing professi onals are available in large numbers and you can get your PC repaired or upgraded more easily than your laptop.

2. Easy Customization All computer cabinets leave space for expansion slots. These expansion slots can easily accommodate your customization needs. Technology changes fast in the computer world and you need to upgrade your computer from time to time. This type of flexibility is hardly available with the laptops.

3. Fast assembling and disassembling Computers are easier to assemble and disassemble than laptops. PCs are not as delicate as laptops and thus do not require sophisticated handling as laptops do. They need less time in assembling and disassembling by a hardware expert.

4. Easy add-ons or replacement Computer is a device in which the addition of components and accessories is more convenient than in laptops. You can easily extend your hard drive's capacity or computer memory. In laptops, these features are difficult to attain.

5. More space to remove heat Many people would bat in favor of laptops because of their capacity of working on Rechargeable Batteries. But they are not aware of the fact that due to these batteries, a laptop is left with less space to release heat. On the other hand, computers have more space to remove heat.

One more important reason of desktop's sustenance lies in their manufacturing companies. Most of the leading desktop manufacturing companies have only entered the mobile PC manufacture segment. While these companies want to sell their laptops at premium rates, they don't want to lose their huge market of desktops. Leading laptop brands like Apple, Lenovo and HP are also the leading manufacturer of desktops. They have sizable revenue from their desktop sales. Thus, desktop computers are going to sustain in the marketplace and continue to be a popular choice of a large number of people in the coming years too. However, the number of laptop users is also go ing to grow simultaneously but it's unlikely that we are going to see office complexes with laptops instead of fixed computers.

Question by : Will moving a HDD with Retail Windows 7 to a Lenovo Desktop Computer boot? Hey guys, I was wondering if I can move my old HDD with windows 7 retail (NOT OEM) to my new purchased Lenovo Desktop as my main HDD to boot with without having any problems. The problem is that I visited many forums to see if this is possible, and most of them said no but those answers applied to OEM Windows OS's but not retail. By retail I mean bought over the counter and then not pre-installed. So I was wondering if the techy side of this community knows if this is possible without losing files or having any problems because I have alot of stuff on my HDD and i just dont want to ghost it over or back it up to another HDD, I just want to use it, also i plan to format the Lenovo HDD so that I may use it as my gaming HDD. (ITS A RETAIL WIN7 NOT OEM) I just want to make it clear. Please answer this please because I really want to use my Lenovo computer and move my graphics card and my HDD over so that I may game in peace. Best answer for Will moving a HDD with Retail Windows 7 to a Lenovo Desktop Computer boot?:

Answer by Hayley
Probably not. Unless the hardware was almost exactly the same which I doubt. The problem is NOT that one is OEM and another retail...it has to do with the registry. The registry is created when you install Windows. It's basically a record of everything on the computer and all the parts/pieces installed on it. If you try to load a disk with a registry too different from the current hardware, it won't load. May work, but no guarantee... You can always install Win 7 on the new machine...or put the disk into an external housing connected via USB and just launch programs and store files from there as a secondary drive.
