If you are shopping for computer backpacks, you know how expensive they can be. The more specialized they are the more they tend to cost. You might think it is possible to simply use a normal backpack, but this is not the case. There are very specialized features in a computer backpack that are not in other backpacks.

The first thing that sets a computer backpack apart from a normal backpack is the central compartment. Normal backpacks range in size and you may find that they are unable to accommodate the rectangular shape and size of a laptop. If you have a laptop with a screen that is larger than 15 inches your choice in computer backpacks may be limited and it is unlikely that you will find a regular backpack that can accommodate it.

If you choose a regular backpack rather than a computer backpack, you may find that even though there are separate pockets, things will still come into contact with your laptop, even through a divider. Computer backpacks are designed so that the entire inside compartment is well shielded from contact with objects which may damage the laptop. A regular backpack is not constructed with the same internal padding so your laptop may be damaged over time. Spending an extra twenty dollars to buy a special computer backpack can save you hundreds if you can avoid damage to your laptop.

Padding is important for several reasons. It can protect the laptop from internal shocks and hits. A proper computer backpack also protects your computer against outside shocks and abuse.
