With the introduction of the first computers to businesses and corporations everywhere, while some people were excited, others felt threatened. They were afraid that computers would take the place of humans and they would lose their jobs. This did not actually happen the way it was feared. Instead, classes and courses were assembled and offered to people so that they could learn how to use and operate computers. Many more of these people went on to learn how to write programs for them and install these programs. The demand for these people became quite high as more and more businesses were taking on the use of computers to store various data on.

Technology improved and forged ahead until it was possible to have a computer in your very own home. These were very basic in the beginning, containing very little memory and carrying high price tags. However, once this cat was out of the bag, there was no slowing it down, let alone stopping it. These machines were improv ed upon every year and then there was the introduction of the Internet, which made it possible to chat with people all over the world. There was more information available at the touch of a mouse than you would find even in a library.

Computers became more compact and the memory increased. Before long, they were improving and updating so quickly that by the time most people could afford to buy a computer for their homes, it was already out of date. This did not stop the demand for them, though. Between the home computer and the Internet, new worlds were opened up to people that they would have never dreamed possible. Now, it was not only possible to make new friends without leaving your house, but working from home was no longer only a pipe dream.

Things really ramped up with the introduction of laptop computers. This made computer technology portable, which enabled students in school to do their homework from anywhere. It also aided salesman to keep up with thin gs at the office while on the road. The possibilities really WERE now endless. The playing field leveled out a bit until the introduction of being able to watch television shows and movies right from computer monitors as well as being able to play games.

As far as technology has taken the possibilities of computers, it is most likely not even close to being finished.

Q-Has Microsoft had a net positive or negative effect on the evolution of computer software? A- Positive. Since computers these days are used in anything. From the kids playing Word of Warcraft, all the way down to architects. Q-What would the world of computers and computer software be like if Gates and Microsoft had never come along? A- Non existent. Eventually someone else i guess would have come up with the computer idea. But if u are referring to how the word would be without them....sad, and boring. By unifying the operating system, software development took off. Also Microsoft had the goal to have a computer on every desk in every home. Back in the 1970s when computers were mainframes, that was a bold statement, but it has largely been realized. Q - What would the world of computers and computer software be like if Gates and Microsoft had never come along? A - Impossible to tell. There's just as good a chance that someone else might have done exactly what Gates did and we'd still be here. The alternative is mainframe computers where the OS was built specifically for the hardware. Q - Are computers worse or better for Microsoft? A - The wording of this question is ambiguous. If you're asking "Does Microsoft benefit from computers?" then the answer is obviously yes. If you're asking "Are computers as a whole better as a result of Microsoft's actions over the years?" then the answer for that is also yes, for all the reasons I've listed above.

They would be crummy because all there would be is Mac's. Computer's wouldn't be as prevalent as they are today if it weren't for Microsoft
