When applying for computer repair jobs or IT jobs in the current market, or any market, competition is often steep. There are many well qualified and experienced technicians out there that you will be competing with. You don't always have to have the most qualifications or the most experience to beat out your competition. Believe it or not, most human resource managers and employers are looking for someone who can do the computer repair job, can be trusted as an employee and who will fit in to the over culture of the company and not provide any headaches, over and above qualifications. Hiring and firing is a costly exercise for an employer.

You need to get across in your resume and your interview that you are maintenance free. Employers want to know you are not going to cause any trouble over the long haul of your career. They also want to see uniqueness and a willingness by you to prove yourself.

How to come across maintenance free

Firstly make sure your resume is clean and simply to read, nothing obvious that glitches the eye. Attach a photograph of yourself that shows you are clean, well groomed and kept. Have a simple smile, not a big grin, on your face. Appearing too cheery can come across as high maintenance. Remember you are there to apply for a computer repair job, so you want to appear capable and trouble free, not Mr or Ms personality plus. You'll have plenty of time to figure out the office politics and personality once you've got the job. For now, you need to get the job.

At the interview, make sure your clothes are clean and pressed, not crinkled. That your hair is brushed and kept and for a man a clean shave is good. For a woman, if you wear makeup, not too much. Women who wear a lot of makeup are gaining a reputation for being rather high maintenance in personality as well as employability especially in the computer repair and IT industry. You don't want your perspective boss asking themselves, how m any times are you going to go to the bathroom to brush up your makeup and reapply your lipstick. Wear natural tones, or even a lip gloss to the interview so it doesn't look like you are wearing anything that needs maintenance throughout the day.

How to Land that Computer Repair Job

One sure fire way that will put you far ahead of the crowd is to offer to prove yourself by saying you are prepared to give them 3 weeks work without pay. As an employer I was once faced with 5 people who would have all been good for the computer repair job I was offering. One outstanding young women said, " will give you three weeks of my time and talent without pay. This will allow you to size up my capabilities for the job without taking any risk. I like your company and I want this job I'm prepared to prove myself to you." Guess who got the job right then and there?

Think about how you can make an offer like this. If you are strapped for cash, ask yourself re alistically, if you don't get this job when are you likely to get another computer repair job like it? Do you think you'll be employed within the next 3 weeks? If not, then you have 3 weeks to spare. Once you are in it is up to you to show your talent and your willingness to learn. Employers know it costs money to hire and fire, so now you are there and part of the furniture it will be very difficult for them to let you go.

Question by : Are computer repair jobs likely to decrease? I really want to pursue a career in computer repair but I read somewhere those jobs are expected to decline in 10 years, and that you have to be extremely good at Algebra and other types of math. I am already pretty good with computers, But I don't want to get into something that I either wont get a job in or will lose my job in. Is this a good/stable area? Could I get a job (And keep one) for say Geek Squad? And what qualifications would I need (Because I'm not the best at Algebra)? Best answer for Are computer repair jobs likely to decrease?:
