Though there are many people who don't yet believe registry corruption is an issue in Windows XP and Vista, the truth of the matter is registry corruption is a mortal enemy to these operating system. It can cause many problems for these operating systems and the persons who use the computers they are installed on.

A registry consists of a huge number of files and folders. Within these files and folders are pieces of code that show or point to the next place a command will find the information it is looking for. Of course, each operating system's command will require several, maybe even millions of these pointers to find all it needs to carry out its mission.

The Trouble Created By Registry Corruption

Much of what we know as registry corruption is nothing more than pointers or directors that should be showing the operating system's commands where to get their needed information, but instead these pointers, which are left over from no l onger performed operations, lead the commands into the abyss.

Inaccurate, or false pointers will make a computer take a long time to complete what should be a quick task. This is because every operation that encounters a false pointer will be sent off looking for something the operating system doesn't want. So, when there are many false pointers in the registry, a single operation must complete several unnecessary operations before does the one it needs to.

Registry corruption can make a computer slow down so badly it can no longer be used. Of course, this would take a substantial amount of corruption, but it can and often does happen. Registry corruption can also cause the computer to crash and be error prone. Even the blue screen failure has often been the result of corruption in the registry.

Viruses, Spyware, Registry Corruption May All Look the Same, But...

Spyware and viruses steal part or sometimes most of a computer's resource s. So, just like registry corruption, these things will make a computer slow down and have frequent errors. You can see that simply knowing a computer isn't working well doesn't tell you what is wrong. It could mean the computer has spyware, viruses, registry corruption or all of the above.

In some cases though it would be rare, none of the above would be the problem. If this was true, it would mean you would probably be faced with motherboard issues.

If all, or a high percentage of your computer's resources are being used spyware and viruses, your computer won't be able to perform any task, even an easy one like connect to a Web site. The way to check to see how many resources are being used is to press ctrl-alt-del, which will open up your task manager in Windows XP. If you have Vista, you will have choose "open task manager after you press ctrl-alt-del.

With a lot of your computer's resources being eaten up by spyware, your computer would be unable to pe rform such simple tasks as opening up the Web browser. It may eventually get your browser open, but you would notice it would do so abnormally slowly. This is the way a computer would act if it had spyware infecting it or if it had a corrupt registry.

The bottom line is, spyware and viruses make a computer preform poorly. Part of this poor performance may be errors and crashes, or the computer may be just plain slow. The confusing thing is a corrupted registry will make a computer behave in the same way for different reasons.

It is not a matter of whether cleaning spyware and viruses is more or less important than scanning for and cleaning registry corruption. Doing both these things are of utmost importance for keeping your PC fast and error free. Yes, it is too bad we have to use registry cleaners and spyware/virus cleaners so we can keep are computers running well, but the fact is; we do have to.
