It's hard to tell how much impact it would add without knowing how much RAM you have now. The biggest impact will be if you tend to have a large number of applications open at a time or if the ones you use have a large memory footprint. In that case the operating system will do what's called memory paging. It will keep shuffling things between your memory and the hard disk. Paging can drastically slow down your system if it is happening often. I recommend a minimum of 2Gb these days. Particularly if you are running Windows Vista.

it will be faster. you'll be able to run more programs simultaneously without the computer going slow or freezing.

[computer memory upgrade]

Solid-state drives (SSDs) are based on flash memory rather than the platters of traditional hard drives, and will prove the most telling upgrade of all from a standard hard disk, offering speed benefits that may make you think you have a new PC under ... Desktops: Should you upgrade or replace?

I would say that memory upgrade is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to speed up your computer , as much as it sound complicated to replace a computer memory, it is not!

What should we know about computer memories? There are two kinds of memory in a computer - 1. Hard disk - which used for all kinds of storage such as words document photos, videos and so on. Usually comes in variety of size - 80GB, 160GB ... 2. Internal memory called RAM (Random Access Memory) - used by the central processor unit (CPU). When you open an application, the CPU loads this software to his memory (RAM) and uses it as a temporary memory to run the current application.

The main differences between these two memories are: 1. Hard disk has much more memory capacity. Could be 80GB compared to RAM with 512MB (0.5G). 2. The CPU works much faster with the RAM compared to the hard disc. 3. Computer turns off empty the RAM conte nts, while the hard disc contents remained as is.

Why is it so impotent to have enough memory in your computer? As I mentioned before, each time you open an application such as editors, video player or graphic application. These applications are loaded into the internal memory (RAM) and run from there. The more applications you use at the same time this memory gets filled up.

Your computer start to slow down when there is not enough room for this application in the RAM and the CPU start to paging which means using the hard disc as his internal memory. We already know that the hard disc is slower then the RAM and there you have it - a slow computer!

Do you need to upgrade our computer memory? First of all you should check the size of the memory, an easy way to do that is to open the task manager. CTRL+ALT+DEL, open the performance TAB, and then check the physical memory - total TAB - is the size of the memory.

Another thing that needs to be checked is the available memory size which should be in a regular operation at list 20 percent out of the total memory. Less then 20 percent will significantly slow down your commuter.

So is it time to upgrade your computer memory?
