Question by Jake P: What is a good basic video editing computer? Alright so i want to ask for a new computer for christmas. I would be using this computer for video editing. Now this is not huge scale full length starwars movies. So I dont need this huge sooped out, over kill of a computer, This is just a smaller scale stuff. So i was just wondering if you could help me out on picking the computer i should ask for. I just need something that will run sony vegas 8 nice and smoothly, and that is not more that $ 500 Best answer for What is a good basic video editing computer?:

You should Probably look at Dells and Hp's in your pricerange because they are usually known for their quality parts used in their systems, since Macs are out of your range and I don't really like Macs anyways but thats my opinions. Try buying them on the manufacturer's website to get a decent deal on the Pc you desire.

I would have to say your choices are very minimum at that kind of range, because a good video editing computer needs a good video card, and if you want to buy a cheap computer like a small Dell or something, you would still have to blow out the extra cash to get a video card that can run correctly with your OS. Although I don't recommend it, there are quite a bit of Best Buy computers that would do great and are less than $ 500, but Best Buy isn't really that well with computers. If you know how to update and configure computers yourself, then by all means go f or it. If you don't, Best Buy purposely has their computers stocked out of date so you have to pay for them to come update it.
