For 4 GB of system memory, you need 2 pieces of 2 GB DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) memory such as this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227298 They are usually sold as a matched pair in a kit, no matter where you get it. If you really want Crucial memory, you can get something like this: http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT2KIT25664AA1067 (but of course, Crucial costs more)

Hi Jay J The type of memory you need is DDR2. You can either add 4 x 1Gb or 2 x 2Gb. It'll probably be slight cheaper to install the 4 x 1Gb option but this will cause you problems in the future becasue you'll need to take some out (and discard) if you want to upgrade the memory, so the 2x2Gb option is the best bet. Crucial memory is good stuff. It's worth paying a little extra and going for their quality. The part number for their 2 x 2 kit is CT2KIT25664AA667 The part number of their 2 x 1Gb kit is CT2KIT12864AA667 The link below will take you straight to the correct page

You can use the Crucial site to find out what memory is right for you without having your new computer built. Just use the manual selection menu (Select Asus, then motherboards, then your model). That will take you to this page: http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=P5K%20PRO

Are duplicate file finders self-defeating? Do they simply make hard work of what should essentially be an easy job that of seeking out and destroying those files of which more than one copy exists? Duplicate file finders are just one of many similar programs that are supposed to make your life easier for you. In this case they look for those files that are either complete or partial doppelgangers: On the face of it, useful programs to have on your side.

Luckily for us, too, there is a multitude of such programs available, far too many to list here, freebies for the cheapskates of us and programs that only cost a few dollars for those of us that prefer to pay a little to ensure quality. There are so many different examples; someone should invent another program to seek out duplicates of the duplicate file finders! It's a nightmare for the consumer to search through the multitude of programs.

You see, the problem is, we've become far too used to having things done for us. Instead of walking to the park, we take the car. Who gets the stairs, when there's a lift? Come on, hands up! None of my friends, myself included, is any good at DIY, so much that I am seriously thinking of taking up a course in it. It's the same with computers; we cannot even open the front door without our computer saying that it is OK to do so. Well, that is a slight exaggeration, but it will not be long though.

Are all of these software programs simply a case of the software manufacturers getting lazy? Perhaps if they could really be bothered to sit down and think about it, they would come up with an 'all-in-one' program that encompasses all of these functions. Better still, why don't the computer manufacturers incorporate them automatically, or at least bundle them up?

Plus, computer memories are doubling year on year. A few gigabytes here and there is not really going to make much difference, is it? Well, to be honest, it migh t in a handful of cases. If we really are to make the most of potentially-useful programs such as duplicate file finders, what we need is the people who make these things for us to see sense, to package these things up, to improve consumer choice. Until such time, these programs may not catch on, which would be a shame.
