This is what appears on the screen - WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows set up using the original setup CD ROM by selecting 'r' at the first screen to start repairs. The truth is, upon purchasing the PC the computer techincian did not leave a set-up cd rom. Can anyone advise me on a site where I could get asssitance on this problem. It is very difficult to repair/reinstall files without the setup cd. You can try this... Start>Run... type sfc /scannow and hit enter. This is called system file checker and most probably your corrupt system file will be restored.

You have a corrupt file in the system files. You don't mention which one. You can find it by starting in safe mode, single step until you find the last one that tries to load. You can copy that file from another pc running the same version OS by booting to dos and copying from a floppy or cd. Most of the time that works. Sometimes there are several files corrupted, just repeat those steps one at a time until it boots ok. good luck to you.

2) Type "msconfig" (with no quotation marks) in the box that is within the window.

3) Another window comes up, now go to the tab to the right called "start up"

4) Near the bottom of the window is a button called "disable all" click that button

5) Then click the "apply" button just below the "disable all" button.

6) X out of the window (close the window) and another window pops up. Click the "restart now" option.
