List some of the ways; a computer is going to be used. Knowing different ways in which customers are going to use their computers will be able to determine the minimum requirements needed in their computers. For example, for graphic designing, computers need more (RAM) memory compared to the computers for simple word processing operations. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7010679&CatId=332 You could always get a barebones kit from Tiger Direct. Once you add in the DDR3 RAM (2x2gb), WIndows 7 64bit, the Hard Drive, and the CD drive, you're going to be looking at $ 525 or so. It comes with a very good processor that will be able to keep up for a few years. With tigerdirect I think you get free shipping and if you live in the right state you don't have to pay sales TAX. This system will give you tons of power, tons for those games. EDIT: Let's not troll here and criticize other people's answers. If you have a better solution then perhaps you should post the list for everyone to see. The processor that's barebones kit is very good and it will last him for quite a while. At this point of time I would not buy a dual-core processor. Otherwise, you'll wind up replacing the processor in a year. A quad-core processor will definately help out with a resource-hogging free security suite like Norton or McAfee. The 5450 will play WOW at decent framerates. I know this becasue I'm managing 2 dual-core computers that are playing the WOW with a Athlon 4200+ & 9400 gt @ 1600X900 and a laptop C2D T6600 & GT 220M @1366x768 . I will say this, the performance of the card you're using depends on the size of your monitor and the screen resolution you're using. If you're going to play games on a 1080p (1920x1080) monitor then you really should look think of spending over $ 100 on your graphics card. Really, if you are going to spend between $ 400-500 on a computer, you might as well take the C-Man's advice and buy a prebuilt system that on sale. The first one he recommends is very good for the price. Be sure to check on newegg.com for OEM keyboard & mouse combos. Anyway, here's a benchmark of the HD 5450 playing the World of Warcraft. The worst it does on WOW is 54fps on a large 1920X1200 monitor. You'll want to stay above 30fps if you want to play the game without any problems. You can always buy a new graphics card when the newer 28nm versions come out later this year. Having a quad-core processor will give you more flexibility to do just that.

Here's a nice system which could play everything, but might be a bit slow in WoW because the graphics card is fairly weak. http://www.walmart.com/ip/GUA103SE/15231528 You could upgrade it later to a Radeon 5670 for about $ 75 and it would be 3X faster in WoW. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102871 Or.... you could get this system: http://www.walmart.com/ip/ZT-Systems-2141Li/15066094 It only has integrated graphics, which is worthless for gaming. So add either of these cards and you'd be all set: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130533 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102875 Both systems can play Minecraft and Runescape easily.
